Better than expected!

I didn’t think I would like this light as much as I do. It looks much better installed than in the box and looks much better than the fixture it replaced. I use incondescent light bulbs and like the glow. I’m able to position the spot light to shine what I want to display.

Useful lighting

I did not install myself. It lights both sides of the INSIDE door of my shop. Very useful to be able to aim each light separately so that cabinets on both sides of the door are easily visible.

Electrical box MUST BE RECESSED

If you are installing this light onto a recessed electrical box, meaning the box is INSIDE your wall or ceiling, you will be fine and the base of the light fixture will sit flush on your wall or ceiling. If, however, you are attempting to mount the light fixture onto a retrofit standard ~4-inch round electrical box OUTSIDE of the wall, you will be sad when you find out the base of the light fixture is about 5 inches (therefore, too big and silly looking on a 4-inch box). I wish this was explicitly stated in the product listing. Otherwise, it’s a nice looking fixture. I wasted a couple hours seeing if I could take the baffles off of the base it came with and put those on a 3rd party base which would then mount onto a standard electrical box, but because the screw ends of the baffles are not a standard 1/2 inch diameter, they would not fit any other brands that use standard sizes for outdoor light fixtures/boxes! So, had to return it and buy something else. The white round electrical box I’m holding in the photos is industry standard and not included with the fixture and purchased separately. I just assumed that like any other flood light, I could mount right onto it and be fine, but Sea Gull is intending this fixture to be only used on recessed boxes.

Very easy to install (I'm not an electrician). Good quality fixture. The deep shroud really keeps down the glare.

Replacement

Exact replacement for the original installed at our house. The rivets failed on the first on but everyone else in the neighborhood has the same light so I’m guessing it was a fluke. Love the light.

Timely Arrival But Product Was Too Big for My Tiny Space.

Too big, too long! I don't have enough space to install them. I'm returning them. On the good side, the product arrived on time and in great shape.

Lights rotate downward by themselves, cannot secure their position.

Dimensions on Amazon state the depth of backplate is 1-1/4", but is actually 7/8". The Sea Gull Lighting website also shows the same incorrect dimension. The nuts for the lampholders are 1/2" thick, which leaves only 3/8" space between the nut and crossbar, so the wires from the lampholder must make a sharp bend to fit in that space. There is only one swivel adjustment described, via the phillips screw (I would have preferred thumbscrews). However the lights also rotate in the backplate, and there is no locking nut on the front of the backplate to secure their position. After installation, the lights rotated downwards by themselves (due to gravity) and if I raise them back up where I want them, they slowly rotate downwards again. I sent an email to Sea Gull Lighting two weeks ago about the dimension and rotation issues, but they didn’t respond. It’s a shame because this is a lightweight goodlooking fixture. The rotation wouldn’t be a concern if this fixture is mounted on a ceiling instead of a wall. Fixture arrived fully assembled and the shades are not removable. The backplate (“canopy”) is 5” diameter. The shade diameter at wide end is 5.5”. It came with a 4-inch crossbar for junction box, center screw and cap nut, 2 orange wire connectors, 2 red thick paper gaskets. It did not come with mounting screws for the crossbar. I have attached pictures. Amazon picture shows a gold cap for the center screw, but is actually white. There are no installation instructions provided on the Amazon website for this fixture. There is an instruction sheet in the box. Instructions say “(IF APPLICABLE) install gasket through lamp base” but doesn’t say when it’s applicable. After research, I understand it is to protect the socket from moisture, dirt and debris. There is a locknut on the center screw that I had to loosen and tighten several times during mounting to adjust it’s depth so the backplate would be tight against the wall.

Ok for price

Pretty much an exact replica of the Flood light that was ruined in a hail storm. Not a bad price, and works just as good. Nice and clean black.
