Pretty much the best worklight I own
I've had this flashlight for 5 years now, and it has never failed to exceed my expectations. In purchasing the light I was looking for a bombproof worklight to use in the home garage for primarily automotive work. Expectations: 1. Durable 2. "Floody" light pattern rather than focused spot 3. Versatile 4. Easy to use 5. Non-proprietary battery Durability - the light has put up with a lot of abuse as I'm not particularly kind to my stuff. It's been dropped, kicked, and everything else. It has tolerated all of this without a single hiccup. The only sign of the hard life it has lived is that the rubber magnet cover is starting to get thin and tear a bit. This should be pretty easily rectified, and it's actually understandable given how powerful the magnet is (an encounter between the magnet and my antimagnetic watch caused the automatic mechanism to start speeding up.) The yellow color doesn't hide my greasy paw prints but makes it easy to find every time. The button is easy to use with gloved hands. Beam pattern - the beam is reasonably diffuse. I use the default "high" setting almost all of the time and don't have any issues with the beam being to bright on whatever object I'm illuminating. The beam is still strong enough to illuminate things further than near work as well. It's strikes a pretty good balance for the work I do in the garage. Versatility - the swivel and rotation of the light head allows you to pretty much aim the beam anywhere you want. The stalk of the head can rotate and the head of the flashlight will swivel through 180 degrees of rotation. This allows you to sit the flashlight down on its base and aim the beam pretty much all over the place. There is enough resistance in the movement of the head to keep it in the position you have set; there are no detents. The magnet is extremely strong. As mentioned before, the included rubber cover is wearing thin and given the strength of the magnet, it is surprising that it has lasted this long. I read one review where a guy lost the light and "discovered" it 6 months later stuck to the inner wheel well of his vehicle. That does not surprise me. The magnet is strong enough that if I'm moving the location of the light I have to be careful when the magnet is moving past any ferrous metal because the magnet will chunk onto it. This same magnet allows you to stick the light anywhere and coupled with the directionality of the beam, gives you an extreme amount of flexibility. I have noticed a tendency for the magnet to pick up random metal filings and chunks that become embedded in the rubber cover. Easy to use - I leave the light stuck to a metal workbench by the light's magnet. When I want to use it, I yank it off and turn it on. When I'm done I chunk it back on to the metal shelf. The button is easy to use, with gloved or ungloved hands. There are a few different light levels - default is "HIGH" which is pretty much the Goldilocks level. Plenty for closeup work but not so much that your retinas are fried. Holding the button down drops the level down to the medium level, which I generally don't use. If the batteries are starting to run low, there won't be a step down in light level because it already starts at "medium" - so that's an easy way for me to tell if I need to recharge the batteries. Battery design - I wanted to avoid any expensive proprietary battery packs that cost as much as a new light. The Knucklehead uses 4 AA batteries. With rechargeable NiMH batteries, you are good to go and always have an easy source of juice. The battery holder is reasonably straightforward even though some of the markings are raised black plastic which can occasionally make it a little harder to figure out correct battery orientation. The cost of entry is undoubtedly high and on the surface is difficult to justify, particularly when conceptually it does the same thing as a beater light at the dollar store. However, in my personal experience I have accumulated a bunch of lights over the years that try to do the same thing this light does, and none of them succeed at it. Just watch out for that magnet!

What would make this great product better?
I have two of these great flashlights along with several other types of flashlight including the CAT worklight. This model is a small flood light, not a spot light so it appears to be less bright than some models because the light is spread over a wider area. It lights quite evenly and is not so harsh on the eyes as the CAT. The CAT Is a true worklight and illuminates a useful area but the Streamlight is easier to carry around making it a great light for illuminating the path at night. Good points Nice even illumination with dual level of intensity. The single button operation isnot quite as annoying as some flashlights which step through too many modes including the almost useless flashing modes. Fairly ideal weight, not too heavy to carry around but enough weight that it will stay put. The swiveling head is great to have and it has a nice flat base, as well as a swiveling hook that is built in. A very strong magnet is also built in and invaluable if you are working somewhere where you can attach it to a steel structure. The flashlight just slips into the charging cradle to charge the battery. This is more convenient than the rechargeable batteries that use a cord that you have to fiddle with to get it plugged in. Not so good points It is surprising that a flashlight made today uses a NiCad battery. These are heavier than the Lithium ion batteries that are now in widespread use, and Lithium batteries do not suffer from issue with charge/discharge cycles that affect the usable lifetime of NiCad batteries. Thte battery charger is convenient but lthe charge indicator does not show when the battery is fully charged. The housing is made from tough nylon filled material (it appears), but that isn't necessarily tough enough to survive a fall to a concrete floor (as I found). After a fall the case was cracked but the flashlight worked for years until the battery finally started to lose its charge. Although this is a design that has been around for many years and still uses the NiCad battery for a work light in small spaces it works really well. Definitely recommended.

Built like a tank.
What you are buying here is the build quality and versatility, not the light. Its not that bright, 200 lumens. This you can get from a cheap $10 flashlight. It does ok on close jobs. It is tough with a strong magnet. The hook I removed. I have several other Streamlight Survivors and wanted one of these.

Great Product!
I have been experimenting with different utility light brands and Streamlight is the absolute best I have come across. This Knucklehead light is not for everyone. While extremely versatile and tough as nails, this product should only be purchased by people looking for over the top performance and longevity with price not being an obstacle. That being said, I absolutely love this product. Its not only extremely bright but extremely versatile. With the multitude of safety ratings under this light's belt it can be used almost anywhere.

Exactly as described
Good quality, very bright, a bit bigger than I thought but still good. Very handy for lighting in tight work spaces, pivoting head is ideal. Magnet makes light a bit cumbersome but still handy at times.

We will see...
Delivered on time. Good product but manual is a little vague. According to manual the charge cycle is supposed to take 1 hour or less then the charger light turns green and goes into trickle charge mode. I did not get a green light after 4 hours so pulled from charger. Seems to work fine. Will see if it starts to work as stated, if not may return. No information as to whether charger will work with standard rechargeable batteries either. Not cheap and expected a bit more detail in charging details.

Quality, Value and Very Bright.
Love this streamlight. Excellent bright light and quality seems very good. It's a little bigger than I expected but very easy to use and feels good when using light.
