Actually it is, for me, more like 4 or 4.5 stars BUT because the issue I have is due to personal taste and not the functionality, I'll give 5 stars. I viewed this product three times before deciding which size of the exact same product to purchase - on my iPad 4, my Droid 4 phone, and on my Dell AIO/desktop. I mention this so that no one will berate me or my screen resolution for not noticing the finish (which is where my personal taste preference issue lies). The actual fixture is a great deal shinier white finish, moderate to high gloss, than what I perceived it to be (my perception was that it was a satin or even matte that was reflecting flash from the camera that captured the image). For me the finish gave the fixture a clinical feel, like the shiny white you see in hospitals or other medical facility lighting...admittedly our family has spent more than our share of time in hospitals, so it's probably just my problem (thus I gave it 5 stars). I happened to have a can of the matte white textured paint on hand, so I just gave the fixture a couple of quick, light coats and I think it looks great. The fixture, in my opinion, needed the grainy (almost like fine salt mixed in the paint) matte finish to go with the opaque glass. Easy to install (one gal with mediocre patience and one ladder, plus my 12v cordless drill [but a screwdriver would suffice]). Make sure, if using the CFL bulbs that the lumens are higher. I've noticed that some 60 watts are as low as 800-something lumens and some are as high as 1100-something lumens. The lumens-output isn't noticed by most folks, but is critical, I think.

nice looking, needs another bolt for safety/security

Purchased the white canopy. Looks great. Fairly straightforward install. Would have give 5 stars if quality were better. Have purchased other lights like this in the last few years at the 2 major big box stores, even same brand. But this is not made as well, and I'm disappointed but not surprised, as product quality on goods overall continues to decline. With this light, the problem is with the "stem" which attaches to the canopy. The stem goes thru the hole in the glass shade. The ceiling mounted lights I've installed in the past had the "stem" welded into the actual metal fixture canopy (the white ring in that is flush with the ceiling, which the glass attaches to, is the canopy). With this light, the "stem" isn't really securely attached. You must screw it to the canopy yourself, and then make sure it can't unscrew and loosen over time. You will need an extra bolt for this, at the top of the canopy. There is a bolt provided, but this bolt is supposed to be used between the glass and the decorative white "knob" on the bottom. The glass is heavy, and needs both the bolt and decorative knob to ensure it is securely fastened to the stem. Would not recommend relying on the decorative white knob by itself to hold the heavy glass. Bottom line, you will need another bolt. Hope this review is helpful.

Satin nickel collar, chrome button

I bought the satin nickel finish. We just remodeled an older home and removed an ornate fake-brass chandelier in the dining room and put this in there instead on a dimmer. We were reaching the end of our budget and needed an inexpensive fixture. It provides a good amount of light. Install was a breeze for my husband but the chintzy chrome button at the tip doesn't match the satin nickel collar around the glass. Other than that, it is quite attractive. I bought the 2-light fixture for the area above my kitchen sink. It works well but still that cheap-looking chrome button is annoying me. I don't have the money for more expensive fixtures right now but if they send me 2 true satin nickel buttons I will get over my dissatisfaction and not feel they falsely advertised the color.

Minimal, and Sharp

This is a very simple flush-mount light fixture with room for three (incandescent style) bulbs. I use it with three ~25 watt compact CFLs. No problems so far with heat, but I've only had it for a short time. The wiring is simple, and includes one lead-out for black and one for white from the cluster of the three on each. (look for it, I started by unwinding the wire nut until I notice that there was that extra wire coming out, which I wire nutted to the power source) Fits in the standard square box style ceiling fixture that's been in use for houses since at least the 60s. The glass diffuser is even nicer looking than I expected, with swirls in it, and it does not absorb much light, so that's great for efficiency. If anything, this fixture is too bright! But that's fine for a kitchen. Nice product, good price!

GREAT LIGHT FOR THE MONEY!

I was in the market for a reasonably priced ceiling light for my kitchen. I had looked all over and couldn't find exactly what I wanted. The ones I liked all seemed to be outrageously expensive. I bought that this one because it was reasonable. I figured that if I did not like it, when it arrived, I could use it in a rental property. I was very pleased with it and pleasantly surprised. In fact I am thinking of purchasing the similar two bulb fixture for the adjoining kitchenette.

Great Kitchen Light

I renovate homes and when I need a bigger light for kitchens and large spaces, this is the one I use. It lets off great light and matches well with any brushed nickel or steel decor. 4 stars due to I have sent a couple back because the glass would be broken on arrival. This has happened more than once but Amazon is good with returns so it is rarely an issue.

Very nice fixture but a pain to install ...

Ordered this to replace some 90s style brass fixtures and this is very well built and looks really nice. The only reason for dinging it for a star was that the thick insulation above the base makes aligning the mounting screw to the base extremely difficult. But once I got it installed ... I love it!
