Fairly decent medium to low cost reel

I bought this for a camping/fishing trip with my kids to the BWCA and I wanted something a bit better than the Barbie rod and reel that my daughter had. It is definitely better than the Barbie reel. It casts and reels smoothly, but there is something odd about the drag that I haven't figured out yet. In travel the drag continuously loosens up so that every time we use it we have to check the drag and usually have to tighten it up. Then there are occaissions when the drag does not engage at all and even though you have reeled in quite a bit it still acts like an open bail. I didn't have time on the trip to tear it down and figure out what was going on so I can't give the root cause yet. Despite this I am still giving it 4 stars as the drag issue is manageable and otherwise it has decent performance for a $30 reel. My kids used it and successfully caught bass with it, so it accomplished its purpose.

Decent reel, not super smooth

I’ve used this reel a couple times now. First outing, worked great, zero issues and I was really happy with it. Second outing I noticed it started to get a little rough feeling when reeling in the line. Third outing I stopped using it as it just felt bad. I came home, popped the cap off to take a look. Noticed the line wasn’t reeling back in and spoiling properly, so I unspooled the line to the point of when it started spoiling bad and respooled it properly. Seems better, but still not perfect, I can still feel a little crunchyness. I ordered some rod lube and grease so I’ll see if that helps, but for now I’ve demoted this reel to my backup as I just don’t trust it.

Reliable with smooth drag

Now that I've caught a pretty good number of fish with it ...I like the performance and how reliably it functions. It stood up to one northern pike that was a good sized fish as the drag set at about 7lbs finally wore that fish out. Excellent reel for the money!

Like the old style reels. The Roam is just like my old Zebco 33 if not better.

great reel for kids!

I have gone through several spin cast reels with my two boys, and this is the best one I have found. Operates smoothly and feels very solid. I am ordering a 2nd one for a spare rod. I do though recommend replacing the 10# line that comes on it with some better quality #6 or #8 pound line.

Lightweight but takes a beating

Has been a great little real for a short Pole with some lightweight line getting into tight spaces. Drag is surprisingly easy to set with 5 lb line and the retrieve rate makes for a really smooth pull through the water. Have been using its weekly for over a year without any issues, surprisingly durable

Good for learning

The style of fishing reel is crap. But it's great for beginners and does its job. Still gets caught up and stuck sometimes.

At least the release button didn't break

This reel worked awesome when first bought but after having it about 3 or so months the anti-reverse started working when it wanted too otherwise it's not a bad reel
