My son really likes this

My son is profoundly autistic, non-communicating and has low awareness. I couldn't get him to put this on for a long time and would have returned it but missed the 30 day return window. [I'd really like to see Amazon extend that for products like this that may be hard to get an autistic child to try but you don't want to give up too soon.] I tried again though and once I got it on him he LOVED it. I think it's intended to be used for calming but the velcro is challenging so I don't think I could get this on him when he's upset. But he loves being squeezed and this really seems to be meeting that need. Once I got the hang of the velcro, it goes on fine but you really need a bit of cooperation from the child to put it on so I still don't think I will be able to put this on when he's upset.

The Perfect Size

I bought this for my 2.5 year old son who has autism after his Occupational therapist introduced us to them. He's a big kid, 3ft 5in, 35lbs and wears 4t shirts. This is the exact one his OT uses, just a different color, and it fits him great with plenty of room for him to grow. The velcro requires a bit of strength to undo and closes in the back, so he can't take it off without help, a feature that's very important. I imagine with time and repeated use the velco will give a bit and it will be easier to undo, but for now its perfect. It does have a bit of a plastic smell right out of the package, but thats to be expected. Its nothing a little febreze or a quick wash couldn't get rid of. The tag is a very large however, so for kids with sensory issues like my son, it will need to be cut off.

I did notice the extra squeeze calmed him down. He was able to wear it for 30 to 45 minutes without a problem.

Sizing nightmare

The blue vest fits our large 8yo. The green vest works but only barely. They need to create a measurement chart that we can really use.

No cons!

The best things about this vest are that it is lightweight and can be adjusted to fit many sizes of children. My boy is tall and skinny, but with shoulder and side Velcro, we were able to adjust to fit him perfectly. He loves it, and even asks to wear it. (SPD/PTSD)

Great product.

Works exactly as expected. Cleans beautifully in the washer in a mesh bag with cold water. It hangs to dry - no heat.
