A Fine Replacement Mailbox Lock (with a couple of things to note)

This is a mailbox lock. It will not trim your lawn or wash your clothes. With that behind us, there's a couple of things you may want to know about this lock. PROS: Construction is good, feels heavy and solid in the hand for what it is. I like the double nut installation rather than a pressure based spring clip. The double nut installation seems more secure and, if you have an adjustable crescent wrench, installation (and, similarly, uninstallation) is a snap. In addition, you get three types of back prongs with this. Any of them would have worked with my mailbox, but I used the one that had a step. It just seemed to work best on the mailbox that I had. YMMV. NEUTRAL: There are two colors. One is silver colored and one is gold colored. Don't be a stump like me and buy the brass colored one for a mailbox where all of the other ones are silver. It looks weird. I won't lose sleep over it, but match your colors BEFORE you buy. This is not the lock's fault, so this is a neutral. CONS: I had absolutely no problems with my keys, but reading the reviews, there may be a quality control issue here and there with this product. All of mine worked great and I bought and installed three of them. If there was a prevalent quality control issue, I'm thinking I would have had a problem with one of the locks, but I didn't, so this may not be a particularly big con. The biggest problem with this lock in the mailbox that I used was the fact that the lock prong did not rest tightly against the inside wall of the mailbox, so that the mailbox door would move about 1/8 of an inch when it was locked. It would not open, but if you touched it, you could jiggle the door about 1/8 of an inch. Now the mailbox that I had installed was very old, and maybe the new ones are tighter. This was not a dealbreaker, but I just thought that it would lock on the mailbox a little more tightly. Otherwise, the lock works fine. Keys go in and out fine, and no complaints (which is very important). I did like the choice of prongs even though they all basically did the same thing. If it didn't allow for that 1/8 giggle it would have gotten 5 stars. Probably would give it 4 1/2 stars overall. Hope this helps you with your shopping and best of luck with your decision.

One of the cams does not work properly

In order to get this lock to work with my mailbox, I had to turn the default cam 90 degrees. Unfortunately, when in that position, the cam kept hitting the body of the lock whenever I tried to unlock, making it impossible to open the mailbox. I ended up grinding down the edge of the lock so that the cam could clear the upper edge of the lock body. The problem did not occur with the other two cams that the kit comes with, but those two cams were the wrong size for my mailbox. The default cam needs to be redesigned so that it can clear the body of the lock no matter what orientation is used to connect the cam to the lock.

I love the fact you can set the width it pretty much fits all boxes! I bought several and the width was off and would move sloppily... this one is tight fits perfect :)
