Easy to use kit and inserts are holding well
Worked as I expected. The drill may result in a tight threading with the tap for some users but I found it worked well for me.

Not a threat starting tap
While the build quality of this product seems very good, I gave it 2 stars simply because the tap it comes with is a bottoming tap. It is not a thread starting tap. It does not say this anywhere. I wanted to use it to repair a timing belt tensioner bolt hole. I spent 4 hours trying to get the tap started in an aluminum engine block, only to give up in frustration. When the tap did grab, it would cut maybe one or two threads, but then rip them out. For someone like me who is not a machinist or engineer, the instructions need to at least let us know that we need to start with a tapered tap to get the threads started. After I gave up, I did some research on why the tap would not grab. I came to find out that the bottoming tap that the kit came with is not designed to start cutting the threads, it is designed to be used AFTER you have already cut the threads with first a tapered tap, then a plug tap. I learned this after I had already attempted over and over again to start the thread, and ripped them out in the first 5mm of the hole. So now those 5mm at the beginning of the hole have no threads for the threaded insert to bite. After I learned about the tapered tap and the plug tap, I went to the local hardware store and found the right sizes of each. I started over, this time with the tapered tap first, and it bit and cut the threads first try. I then moved on to the plug tap, then finally the tap that was included in the kit. I did manage to salvage the hole and the threaded insert went in cleanly and everything tightened down nicely. The instructions seriously need to let people like me know that the tap that is included is not designed to start cutting the threads, before they damage their project beyond being salvageable.

Better idea then a helycoil. Threads in nicely
Drill bit seams a little big so used a smaller one before tapping and still used loctite thread locker although already on the threads. Locked in great and repair is perfect with the option of removing screws for maintenance. Threaded insert stays in solid

Saved a 15K dollar block
I am a Field Service Manager for a Major, Class 8 truck Co. I received a call from a technician that the threads were damaged on a centering bolt for a lifter. We had previously replaced engines for this issue, so I decided to try and repair it. The product worked great. The design is such that it countersinks the insert, which was really nice for this application.

This kit is my go-to
I've worked on several early 2000's VW's now where some previous owner has over torqued or reused the transmission torque mount bolts and they snap off inside the trans. This kit has set me up to where once the snapped bolt is removed, with a steady and level hand I can safely oversize the bolt hole and put these inserts in and use the stock bolt size again worry free. They are machined to where the threads will match each other when stacking them. I've been using JB weld to lock them into place permanently. If these things come out, There's a bigger problem. I've had to do this on 3 cars now, Not a problem with them yet.

Works, but had to replace tap.
The kit works as described, but the tap included wasn't able to cut in to cast iron heads. Ended up buying a separate tap with more chamfering and was able to get the job done. Inserts worked as advertised

Got the job done
This saved my English block. Broken bolt deep in the block to where I connect my timing chain cover. Followed the instructions and now the car is back together running these streets.
