Great tool, better than using a small screwdriver
For years I've been using a small flathead screwdriver when having to pull IC's out of sockets, etc. While it works well, I was always afraid to accidentally scratch the board and cut a trace. When some chips needed extra force to pull them out, using the screwdriver was sometimes a scary experience. I recently saw this tool being used on a Youtube channel I follow and was surprised by how easy and safer it made the process of pulling IC's. I was reluctant at first because of the price and decided to look around and see if I could find basically the same thing but cheaper. Interestingly enough, I could not find anything comparable at a lower cost, so I bought this one. When it arrived, I was struck by the quality of the tool - I now understand why it costs more than other similar tools. The curve of the tip is just right to get the right leverage when pulling a chip. Surprisingly, even though the tool is larger than a small screwdriver, the curve makes it easier to get into narrow areas of a board to pull a chip, where a normal screwdriver would have issues. Happy with my purchase and I now have a tool that will last me decades.

This is now Wiha’s ESD safe line.
I like that that these are ESD safe but they’re quite pricey.

Works better than a screwdriver
I got this to work on some older electronics and it's already saved me a few bent/broken pins. I'm not equipped to test the ESD safeness of this chiplifter, so I can't really comment on that. Fits nicely in the hand and works as expected. The top spins like you might find on smaller screwdrivers, which is an unnecessary frill but it sounds cool and can give you something to do while waiting for the soldering iron to heat. Happy I got it.

Very Handy Chiplifter! Never work on Circuitboards without it!
This thing is very effective! It's one of those tools that make you wonder how you ever lived without it, when doing electronics repairs/assembly.
