Cute but monkeys fall off

The game is cute and my son loves it! My only issue is that the monkeys fall off super easily and that is not part of the game . Otherwise great for little ones

Excellent Game For Beginners ...

Our family loves playing games, but no one was looking forward to playing Candyland over-and-over again when our grandson was ready to play games. "Monkeying Around" seemed as if it might be an excellent alternative. The adults in our family who play games and, most importantly, the little ones think "Monkeying Around" is a winner. It is sturdy, colorful, and delights our grandson when the monkeys topple the tree. The game is challenging enough for adults - determining balance and distribution of the monkeys - so that they are not adverse to playing this game with the little ones in your household. "Monkeying Around" seems to be durable and able to take enthusiastic toddler play. The monkeys are plastic and will not break; we keep them in a Ziploc sandwich bag ton prevent losing them. If the game structure is dropped, the tree trunk which is made of hard plastic could possibly break, so we do put the assembled tree out of reach when not in use. The spinner is probably the weakest aspect of "Monkeying Around" - it does not spin particularly easily. A better option would have been an arrow-shaped spinner attached to a cardboard square with the numbers and large monkey printed in the different segments. Players will learn to make decisions when each must decide where monkeys should be hung. Little ones learn there are consequences for choosing to incorrectly place the monkey. Further, the game teaches a child to think about balance and weight distribution when deciding where the monkeys are to be hung. "Monkeying Around" is an excellent way to introduce games to a child. The recommended age range of 4 and up is probably appropriate; at 3, a toddler may not fully understand taking turns. However, "Monkeying Around" is an excellent way for a child to begin understanding that concept.

Fun

This is such a cute fun game for a family with a little kid. However the magnet is not very strong so it makes it a little more challenging.

If they fix the magnet issue buy this game!!!

After reading the reviews about the magnet not being strong I decided to do an experiment...my version will hold ALL the monkeys excluding the four large monkeys of each color. This being said, I purchased the game in 2015. HOPEFULLY THE MANUFACTURER SEES THIS AND FIXES THE MAGNET PROBLEM because otherwise this game is a lot of fun! It is made of quality plastic and does not feel cheap. My 3-yr-old son (who has some delays...) loves to play (not quite by the rules) and enjoys setting it up as much as playing. Placing the monkeys gently on the tree is great for his fine motor skills, and the concentration on his face is priceless! My only complaint is probably the spinner. It's difficult to get a good spin and frequently lands in between monkeys a lot. If they fix the magnet issue, buy this game!!

Exceeded our expectation

When perusing Amazon for another fun, random gift for our 4yo son's birthday, I came across this unique find. Thought that for the price, it wouldn't hurt to try it. It turned out to be a big hit among the same aged children and adults too. The tree hangs magnetically and you have to balance out the monkeys w/ each turn to keep the branches from falling down and crashing --what fun when they do, however. BIG surprise that produces lots of screams and giggles. I have a 2yo daughter and I wouldn't worry about her putting these in her mouth. No official recommendation w/ regard to safety, but I, personally, don't worry about it as a choking hazard for younger siblings. The box it comes in is pretty cheap, so don't expect to re-use it much. We just transferred ours to a plastic tub. Easy to assemble (takes 1 minute--unlike games like Don't Break the Ice, etc.) We are buying another one this Christmas for a cousin who attended the family party.

When the tree falls it feels more like a mistake than anything else

This game looks really adorable and a fun twist on the traditional barrel of monkeys game. However, it turned out to be a big disappointment. The palm tree top where you hang the monkeys is attached to the stem with a magnet. The way the game works is that you spin the attached spinner, add monkeys to the tree and eventually the palm tree top falls, resulting in the end of the game. The magnet is pretty weak, so it seems to detach very easily. Plus, when it falls it just feels like a total mess is made--it doesn't feel like there is any sort of completion. We tried playing a couple of times and it was just frustrating. Even as an adult with steady hands I couldn't get that many monkeys on the tree before it tumbled. It has the feel of falling apart, rather than the natural conclusion of the game. We returned the game since it was a big disappointment. We will probably buy a barrel of monkeys, though, since my daughter enjoyed attaching them to each other and I think that's the only aspect of this game that she's going to miss.

Fun Game

My 4-year-old niece loves the game! It's super simple to teach and lots of fun. My rating has to do with the packaging. The box only opens from the side so putting the game away takes a little longer. I also wish that they provided resealable bags to put the monkeys back in.
