It's a keeper!
This knife sharpener works very well. I sharpened a butter knife to determine how it works. The butter knife can now cut through whole pineapples and essentially anything that a typical butter knife cannot. It works great on other knives as well.

Not overly impressed
Not overly impressed by this overpriced sharpener. Yes, purchasing this home sharpener is considerably cheaper in comparison to taking a blade to a professional sharpener. However, it offers less options than a lower priced sharpener on this website.

They’re great for sharpening.
I’ve used this on everything from knives to axes to swords. Makes a nice sharp edge, only thing is, it slips easy and you might cut yourself if not held properly. Works wonders on replica swords, takes a little while, but it works. Use a dust mask of some kind while using it to stop steel dust from entering your lungs

Something You Need to Know Before Using
You could easily spend an hour or more looking at knife sharpeners on Amazon. Do you go electric? Or do you go manual. Do you get one like this? Or the whetstone. Do you spend $6 on a product like this, and question just how well it will actually work? Or do you spend the big bucks on a fancy electric sharpener. I decided to just take a shot, and dropped six bucks on this one. And so far, I've been happy with the results. I've used it on a variety of kitchen knives and pocket knives. Everything noticeably cuts better after. Although there is one thing I'll mention in advance, before you actually use it.... Be careful WHERE you use it. As in, make sure it's in an area that's easy to clean. Because when you use it, you'll end up with a bit of powdered metal and fragments. Both on the knife, and the sharpener itself. It's not really noticeable, though you'll see it when you wipe the blade down with a fabric or paper towel. My suggestion is to use the sharpener somewhere that cleanup is easy, maybe even outside. And just do a very thorough job of cleaning your knife before using it again. Last thing you want is tiny bits of metal in your food. You're basically getting something that will extend the life of all of your knives for the price of a burger, it's a great investment.

Good for small knives like pocket knives.
Att these knife sharpeners work on the same basic principle more or less. The biggest difference seems to be between the two and the three slotted variety. The three slotted variety usually has a diamond coated rod or wheel in addition to the tungsten carbide and the ceramic rods. Though I did see one once with a diamond and a ceramic, the two slotted variety usually uses tungsten carbide as its coars sharpening material. Tungsten carbide is very close to diamond in hardness and diamong should not necessarily be more expensive. We are talking about a process using vaporized carbon to deposite a layer that is, essentially, diamond. We are not talking about mining anything three miles down in South Africa. The main advantage of this particular product is that it allows you to get the butt end of the blade fairly close to the rods. This is great for pocket knives since it sharpens almost the whole blade edge. The thing is small, lightweight, and kind of cut looking. It would be ideal to throw in a backpack or fishing box or to keep in any handy place you plan to do knife sharpening. Once your carbide or ceramic get chipped or damaged looking, throw the thing away and buy another one. Just by the laws of physics, these types of sharpeners will not last all eternity if put to good use. Also, if you have a really pricey pocket knife and it's already fairly sharp, avoid the tungsten carbide and use the ceramic, the white rods. I do not know how this thing would work sharpening an actual ceramic knife. As for serrated knives, I usually shaprn one by just stroking the smooth, back edge with a ceramic, diamond, or steel rod. The way not to dull your knives is to avoid hammering the edge down as you are chopping stuff up. My wife and my late sister have and had the habit of pounding the knife like using an axe to fell a tree. You can hear the clacking in the next room. To make things worse, my sister used to use a glass cutting board. Glass is harder that most steels and will just pound your edge flat. The best cutting boards are wood or bamboo and scientific studies have shown that wood is more sanitary when tested that glass or plastic. My sister used to use glass through some concern about germs. Just wash your cutting board and don't scour it with a rough cleaning pad to make micro grooves.

This will sharpen your kitchen and pocket knives!!
I wanted a quicky manual knife sharpener and didn't have a clue which sharpener I needed so I purchased four mid-range sharpeners. This one was the least expensive and it is small, but this noticeably out-sharpened the others and I'm getting an extra. Great for any kitchen knife including pairing and steak knives. I'm very happy with this purchase.
