Anti-theft protection requires an unadvertised fee half the cost of lock, ease-of-use is subpar

My biggest point of frustration with this purchase is in finding out in the fine print that getting a few years of anti-theft protection requires another $30 fee (in addition to somewhat strict terms). That’s not an inconsequential charge, and this is already a fairly expensive lock; I feel it’s highly dishonest for the company to advertise that the locks come with anti-theft protection while burying a significant additional charge in the terms and conditions—they deserve to be dinged hard for that. While Krypnotie splits semantic/legal hairs in claiming that the protection isn’t “insurance”, it essentially is. Buying the lock basically gives you access to a strict but inexpensive theft-only insurance plan. Which is fine, but they should be clear and upfront about that. The protection is the main reason I bought a second lock at this price level. This kind of sneakiness really makes me wonder about what they might resort to to wriggle out of a claim or whether they might drag their feet in approving/fulfilling it if I ever need to file one. As for the lock itself, it is awkwardly heavy but certainly does seem like it offers good protection. I feel like it would deter most thieves, maybe even some with an angle grinder, but I’m no expert at identifying lock weaknesses, nor have I had mine challenged yet. It is a tad too short to lock both my frame and rear wheel without excessive fuddling, and is a bit awkward and slow to handle in general. The combination wheels don’t turn as easily as they should and work better with fingernails. My Club Utility Lock is sgnificantly quicker and easier to secure to the bike. Returns are a hassle, so I will probably keep the lock and register for the theft protection, because the lock seems pretty secure and the protection would give me some peace of mind, but the marketing dishonesty and somewhat poor ease-of-use has left this buyer with more mixed feelings than feels reasonable for an approximately $100 spend.

Feels hefty, a little finicky

It looks scary so maybe that's enough. Its big, its heavy, and has the Kryptonite logo. At first I thought it was broken. You have to press the locking link into the lock body to pull the release on the end to open. Otherwise, it won't come out. I am never certain that combo locks are as secure, but this has five numbers, so maybe that adds something. The nylon chain sheath protects the bike mostly. The lock body itself is like a flail, so I've noticed some dings from it. I'd buy it again.

Quality lock, gives you peace of mind

After having my trailer stolen, securing expensive equipment has been a priority. Lock works great, like the flexibility to change combo and gives peace of mind knowing equipment is safe and secure. If there is any tension on the chain, locking is not particularly easy. Wish I had gotten the longer one it that one is on me

Too heavy and defective product

Very heavy lock and very difficult instructions to set combination. Not easy to use for 13 year old - had to cut off chain because lock settings did not work! Poor buy online.

Leider zu klobig. Ggf. "fest installiert" eine Überlegung wert.

- Ich habe das Schloss gekauft, da es bei Stiftung Warentest (Ausgabe 05/2019) gut abgeschnitten hat und zudem einen günstigen Preis hat im Vergleich zum vergleichbaren Produkt von Abus (ca. 50 Euro vs. 140 Euro). - So wie es aussieht gibt es keine Halterung für das Schloss am Rad: Die Herstellerempfehlung lautet, dass man das Schloss im Rucksack transportiert. - Für einen Transport im Rucksack ist das Schloss mit fast 4 kg definitiv zu schwer (ich bin männlich, 180 cm, 80 kg)! Packen Sie sich einfach mal 4 Tetra-Packs Milch in den Rucksack... - So sehr ich auch das Schloss gut finden möchte...ich habe es wieder zurück gesendet und werde vermutlich ein Faltschloss nehmen, das eine Halterung am Fahrrad-Rahmen bietet. - Wenn man das Schloss z. B. beim Arbeitgeber "fest installieren" kann, dann ist es meiner Meinung nach eine Überlegung wert. Dann muss man das Schloss nicht transportieren. Achtung: Für die Erstinbetriebnahme (Einstellen des Codes) benötigt man meinem Verständnis nach einen kleinen **Torx-Schlüssel** (Spezialwerkzeug). Das ist nicht gut in der Gebrauchsanleitung erklärt. PS: Der Initialcode "00000" ging bei mir auch nicht. Das ist bereits in anderen Bewertungen beschrieben. Das hat mich auch wahnsinnig gemacht.

ÖFFNEN GEMÄß BEDIENUNGSANLEITUNG GEHT NICHT !!!!

Habe versucht das Schloss nach der Lieferung gemäß Bedienungsanleitung zu öffnen. ERGEBNIS: Die in der Bedienungsanleitung angegebene Kombination 00000 ist FALSCH !! War nahe dran das Schloss zurückzuschicken!! Erst nach dem lesen der Beiträge anderer Amazon Käufer konnte ich das Schloss mit der Zahlenkombination 00005 öffnen. Ich hoffe jetzt dass die Eingabe einer neuen Kombination geht.

Kein transportables Schloss - nur für Festinstallation geeignet (2,7 kg!)

Aufgrund der guten Bewertung in STIFTUNG WARENTEST habe ich mir dieses Schloss als Ersatz für mein altes (billiges) Zahlenschloss bestellt. Es macht einen hochwertigen und sehr stabilen Eindruck, da ist mit "Kurz-Duchknipsen" nichts drin, echt der Hammer. Aber das hat leider auch seinen Preis - und damit meine ich nicht die EUROs sondern die 2.700 Gramm, die den Radrucksack nach hinten ziehen bzw. allein die Größe des Verschluss, die ein Anbringen am Fahrrad nahezu unmöglich machen. Für mich als Mountain Biker leider nicht geeignet, werde es zurücksenden. Empfehlen würde ich es für Radfahrer, die es nicht transportieren müssen. Diebstahlsicherheit sehe ich durchaus gegeben. Die Stabilität ist ein echtes WOW! wert. Nachtrag 10.09.20: habe mir jetzt eine 800g leichte Alternative bei Amazon gekauft. Nicht nur leichter, auch das Schloss ist nicht so klobig und passt besser um den Sattel/die Stange rum. Sehr stabiles Kettenschloss, lang genug und gutes Zahlenschloss. Standard Combo 00005

Ich suchte ein Schloss, mit dem ich mein Rad in Hotels über Nacht anschließen kann. Ich arbeite viel auf Montage und fahre dann mit dem Rad zum Kunden, wo kein Diebstahl droht. Daher ist das Gewicht und die schlechte Handlichkeit eines Kettenschlosses nicht wichtig, vielmehr macht es einen stabilen Eindruck und kein anderer Hotelgast oder -Mitarbeiter käme auf die Idee, sich an meinem Rad zu vergreifen. Nicht so schön ist dass die Anleitung eine falsche Standard-Kombination ausweist. Es ist wie bei allen Kryptonite Produkten die 5 am Ende, und nicht die 0. Google weiß das, aber nicht jeder greift sofort zum Smartphone und schaut nach. Finde ich jetzt aber nicht tragisch genug, dafür einen Stern abzuziehen.

Gutes Schloss, aber sehr schwer

Nachdem unser Sohn ein neues Fahrrad bekommen hat, reichte uns sein altes Schloss nicht mehr. Aus Gründen der Flexibilität beim Abholen etc haben wir uns für ein Zahlenschloss entschieden. Bei der Einrichtung der Kombination sind wir nur einmal kurz verzweifelt, Alles in Allem hat es gut funktioniert. Man muss allerdings auch bei der Anwendung darauf achten, dass die Zahlen wirklich genau auf der Markierung stehen, was aber problemlos ohne "Gefummel" möglich ist. Was sofort auffiel ist, dass das Schloss sehr schwer ist. Sicherlich ein Qualitätsmerkmal und daher grundsätzlich positiv, aber für einen 6-jährigen schon eine Herausforderung, v.a., wenn er es mit dem eigenen Fahrrad transportieren muss. Wir sind sehr zufrieden mit dem Schloss. Der einzige Kritikpunkt ist, dass beim Verschließen erst das Seitenteil herangedrückt wird und dabei die Öse einschließt und danach die Zahlen geändert werden müssen. Wenn man diese Art Schloss nicht gewöhnt ist, dann kann es passieren, dass man nach dem "Öse-heran-klicken" denkt, das Schloss wäre zu und vergisst, die Kombination zu ändern. Wir würden es wieder kaufen.
