Worked great. Sharpened my whole vintage Irwin bit brace augers.

I found a full set of old Irwin bit brace augers on a moving sale a little while back. The snails were perfect, but the cutting edges felt a little dull and they didn't cut great. This file allowed me to easily sharpen the bits. They cut great now. The only thing I'd say negatively about this file is that the edges where you hold/handle it are fairly sharp and uncomfortable to hold, but you don't really hold it too long to sharpen a bit. Also, read up on how to properly sharpen auger bits before attempting. The goal is to remove as little metal from the bit as possible. Get a clean edge, but it won't feel razor sharp. Only sharpen the inside edge on the spurs and the outside edge of the cutting edge. If you do the other way, you will change the geometry of the cutter and it will either not work, or not work well.

Exactly what I needed to touch up some vintage auger bits. Read up before you sharpen as incorrect sharpening will ruin your bits!

Dull after sharpening two brace bits

Even tried cleaning the file sides with a file card but the metal is so cheap it rubs smooth after less than 30 minutes of use. Big disappointment. When it was sharp it did a fine job so two stars instead of one

Ideal for sharpening auger bits

The design of this product, with a “safe side” and a “safe edge” make this ideal for sharpening auger bits without ruining the adjacent edge, reducing the working life of the auger bit. I will buy a second in case I loose the first.
