Seamless integration for wahoo aficionados but needs some tweaks
I got the Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM for my husband. He is a triathlete and, while he is a Garmin devotee, he does use the Wahoo trainer and uploads his work outs and training rides to Strava so I thought this would be a great addition to his training gadgets. He was excited to try it out but said there are pros and cons and that it wasn’t as intuitive as one would expect. He liked the big screen and said ot was easy to read. He felt the form factor was sleek and said that the way it fits flush into the mount makes it nice and aerodynamic. He did say he wished the mount used the typical elastic bands instead of zip ties, as the zip ties made it more annoying to switch bikes or locations once you install it. He felt the device connected very easily with with current accessories (HR, Power Meter, Cadence Sensor, Trainer etc) and he especially liked the seamless integration with the App which allows one to control many of the settings which almost instantly updates on the device. One thing he didn’t like was the font of the numbers, which uses a small superscript number for the decimals rather than a normal decimal point and normal sized number, making it hard to see. He said he also still needs to figure out how to get lap information to automatically pop up at end of each lap. He assumes there is a way to get it to do that but so far has not figured out where to make that setting, thus his comment on the Wahoo Elemnt Roam not being as intuitive as he would like, or that this function isn’t available on the Elemnt Roam. He did feel that the battery life seemed to be really good, at least on first few rides.

Exceptional bike computer!
I’m using this Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM bike computer on my Trek FX3 Disc. I have it integrated with my iPhone and connected to the included sensors for cadence, speed and heartrate. This is an exceptional bike computer. It comes with everything you need for most of the available features in the box. After taking the time to understand all of them it is straightforward to use. The Wahoo ELEMNT App steps you through the setup, pairing with your phone, connecting the included sensors and integration with other services like, Komoot, Strava, etc. The unit has a good screen size, resolution and comes with an anti-glare coating. It is easy to read and very clear to see in a variety of conditions. The screens are easily customizable through the ELEMNT app so you can display the most important information on the screen and in the priority order you want. You can zoom in and out by pressing the side buttons. The ideal screen viewing condition is when it is in direct sun, but even with polarized sunglasses on I have no issues reading the screen in sunny and shady conditions. The backlit feature, which turns on automatically or manually works well for low light conditions. I often plan custom routes for biking trips using Komoot and Ride with GPS. I integrated these services with the ELEMNT ROAM App so I can download my planned routes to it. Once downloaded the navigation feature of the ELEMNT ROAM will direct me along my planned route. It works great! I’m not a fan of the strap heartrate sensor. The Wahoo heartrate sensor works fine, but typical of any strap sensor, you are strapping it around your chest, and you feel it while riding. I have an Apple watch, but the Apple heartrate monitor doesn’t integrate with any bike computers. From my research this is mostly a limitation with Apple protocol used and not Wahoo. *Pro tip - There is a product that will let you integrate the Apple watch with the Wahoo, it is called the Watch Link Pod. It will cost about $60 on Amazon and if you don’t like the chest strap monitor this is a good alternative. The ELEMNT ROAM is a little bulky looking. It has a big border around the screen that I wish was used to add onto the size of the screen viewing area. The alerts have a primitive sound, like an electronic football game from the 1980s. They can be turned on and off, but from what I can tell there is no way to change the sound to something I would consider more desirable. I'm nitpicking a little as these are minor things in comparison to all of the greatness this device is capable of. I enjoy cycling and use the ELEMNT ROAM for viewing all of the available data and statistics it has to offer. The Summit Climbing feature is new to me and very cool, especially when riding in hilly locations or planed routes with a lot of climbing. Some of the features the unit is capable of monitoring like my power (watts) and rear radar detection require additional accessories. I really love this bike computer. It has lots of features, easy to setup and program and it has an excellent screen making it easy to read your data. I also like the cycling statistics it collects while I am riding. If you are into cycling, fitness and the statistics associated to these activities this is an excellent bike computer. The navigation feature, which works exceptionally well is a bonus. The ELEMNT ROAM definitely enhances the riding experience for me. I highly recommend it.

Solid Bike Computer + Package
Below is my review for the Roam v2 which applies -- but this package also comes with the HR monitor, speed and cadence sensors. The cadence sensor is nice if you don't already have a power meter that can give you cadence, and speed helps out when you lose GPS (tunnels, tall buildings, mountain biking in trees). Both nice additions if you need them and the wahoo versions are great. The TICKR heart rate monitor is also quite nice, bluetooth and ant+ multiple signals, easy to update. The package doesn't save you a lot of money, but if you don't already have these things, it's worth it. You can read reviews on dcrainmaker and gplama about this unit -- but I'll go over some top level things that I enjoy/don't like about this unit. Wahoo got super popular by making a bike computer that just wasn't buggy -- Garmin was suffering 2-3 years ago, and enter the wahoo. But 2-3 years since then -- Wahoo has now stagnated a bit and Garmin has caught up -- and passed Wahoo in some areas. This is a decent upgrade for the original Roam (it's faster, more memory, better software) but more of an evolutionary step -- and lagging a bit now in some of the software features to the Hammerhead and Garmin units. That said it's still a solid unit, works well, good battery life, this now has multi-band GPS so routing is better. Still can setup/arrange/route from your phone, which is solid (although Garmin now offers this as well). If you are used to Wahoo, this is a solid upgrade, and hopefully they will keep adding software updates to continually making it better, but we're too a point where Hammerhead is probably now out in front, but all of them are super equal. For me personally the biggest downside is that Wahoo still doesn't support Ant+ lights, which is a small thing, but super nice to just turn on your computer and all the lights turn on and sync up and change modes automatically based on time of day.
