A bit flimsy but good price

This isn't the best-made carrier out there; it tends to collapse inward a little bit, but not so badly that it's a problem. There is no reinforcement along the sides to maintain shape when you're carrying your animal. However, it's about what I expected for the price, and it works well enough. My cat is a bit small at 10 lbs, but he can stand up inside (and that was important to me), and he can still lie down very comfortably. There was enough room to add a towel/pad on the bottom for extra comfort.

A well made, sturdy product

Outward Hound makes great quality products and this one doesn't disappoint. It's a great carrier. Unfortunately our mini dachshund was a bit too long to comfortably turn around in this carrier so I had to return it.

false advertising

I bought this because of its specific weight and dimensions. Weight was off by two pounds as was dimensions (height is 11.5 inches). On top of that, I got a used product that had been repackaged (there was dog hair). Pretty unhappy with the false advertising and fact that I paid full price for something second handed.

Not the ultimate carrier, but close

This is a well-made, thoughtfully designed, and almost perfect pet carrier, with a few weaknesses. Pros: the liner, which has a soft, soothing cover attached to layers of stiffening material, is fastened with Velcro, making it easy to disassemble and clean. The handles, which are adjustable, have a nicely padded, removable grip so you can hold them as if a single handle, and it's comfortable in your hand. It opens from either the top or the end, offering you a choice depending upon the behavior of your pet when faced with The Carrier. There's a little pocket slot (which has no closure) for items. There's a little opening (which also has no closure) along the top where you can slide in your hand to pet, groom, soothe or feed a treat to your furry friend. It's mostly mesh, so Fido or Felix can see every peril in 360-degree detail; also, this is a great feature in hot weather, when a stressed critter might overheat. A terrific feature is that the zippers snap together, so there's no chance that one might inadvertently slide open. Now for the weaknesses. First, that mesh is vulnerable to fangs and claws. A pet who wants to escape, can. If not immediately, certainly with a little diligence. So this carrier is best for calm creatures. When traveling, if you give a sedative to your dog or cat, that should help. Second, that storage pocket doesn't close. Whatever you put in it is likely to fall out, especially since the material is slippery. Third, the slit that allows your hand to enter the carrier also doesn't close - and a small, determined animal can probably figure this out. If your cat doesn't escape entirely, she can at least stick her head out and bite, or your dog can stick his paw out and scratch. Fourth, the cover of the bottom pad is almost furry in feel. That's not necessarily a good thing if a nervous pet is likely to expel bodily waste of any type. Sure, it can be washed later, but for the meantime, that material is going to lovingly hold onto every drop or particle. Overall, I think this is a great carrier, but there are those weaknesses to consider.

Ventilated pet carrier with easy top entry

I have worked in the Pet Industry since 2003 and have seen countless pet carriers. I ordered the Outward Hound Pet Carrier to carry our bunny because it is easier to set her into a carrier versus trying to get her in a plastic carrier. I have found that sitting a pet in a carrier is far easier than trying to put them through a door. I like how this carrier has been made. It is fully ventilated and has a secure but happier feel versus closed plastic carriers. The zippers all snap which prevents pet heads pushing the zipper apart and coming right out. There is a small side pocket that vet papers can be placed in. It is not storage galore as the descriptions states and is a simple flap which cannot zip or close. The shoulder strap is adjustable and ergonomic. The carrier is suitable for inside an airplane under the seat. The inside pad is very soft and the cover is a black velvet material which will attract pet hair. It can be washed easily and has a velcro opening. I recommend air drying the cover to preserve its shape. There is a small nose opening that allows the pet to peak or sniff. It allows for treats to be given and finger pets as well. My concern is that it is a little big for kittens or smaller pets. Just as long as you are aware of this and the size of your pet, it should be fine. I think this is a fine choice for a pet carrier. It would be nice to see a satisfaction guarantee listed on the product page.

Good Size!

I have a large 16 pound kitty. She fits in this but without a lot of extra space. She can still turn around in it, but if she needed to be in a carrier for an extended time, I would want to put her in a larger one. I really like that this has shoulder straps. It made it much easier to carry to the vet's office when I could distribute the weight on my shoulders. I like the little opening designed for petting your pet or giving treats. You can use the opening from the end/side or the top to put your pet into the carrier. There's also a smaller zipped area that you can allow your pet to poke his/her head out. We did try that with our cat and she kept trying to squeeze all the way out. The top compartment has 2 zippers that share the same track. One of them zipped fine, the other would go on the zipper teeth like it was zipping, but it would not really be zipped and would be completely opened. As long as we know which zipper to use (and which one not to use) it's not a problem, but potentially it could result in an escaped pet.
