Not as good as other Unlocked sets
I have played every Unlock game that has come out, up through the release of this set, and I would recommend any other Unlock box set over this one. Overall, this one is just okay. I found that the games in this box were often frustrating. In general, the pitfall of the Unlock games is that they penalize you for trying creative, unusual things by deducting time from the clock if you try the wrong solution. When you have played enough of these, and you get used to the rules, you stop trying things in order to make sure you don’t run down the clock on penalties. Then what happens is that a puzzle will require you to try some unusual, creative things, but you don’t want do that because it has been trained out of you. It makes the higher-level, more complicated puzzles more difficult and less fun to play, when you know a solution that you want to try but are afraid to try it. Based on my experience, I would say that the best Unlock games are the Noside mad-scientist games, which are spread over several different box sets. I would recommend those first. Now, about this box set: I am being careful to try to avoid spoilers, but beware there may be small spoilers ahead. ————————————————————- I would say that Action Story is the best-designed of the three, although it feels to me like it is inspired by a very specific children’s movie series (which I won’t name in order to avoid spoiling the game). This one is the most family-friendly in the set, but it also might feel a bit childish to adult players. Robin Hood has clues that do not always make sense. There is one audio clue, in particular, that I believe is supposed to be in English but which might not be, because we found it impossible to understand. Either the performer has an extremely heavy accent, or for the sake of the theme the clue is not delivered in contemporary English. We gave up and went to the hint booklet. The final puzzle was creative and clever, but very frustrating to try to solve. Sherlock Holmes was full of elements where I found myself asking, “Why would I ever combine these?” upon finally figuring out the combination the game wanted. An extension of this problem is that you can get to the correct game ending (as we did) without following the leads for all of the crime victims. There is a large component of movement through London where we were afraid to try too much or move around too much for fear of getting penalties — but you can’t play this one without doing some moving around and trying things out. Then, the ending doesn’t tie together the elements of the story in a clear way, and I found it unsatisfying. So, if you are a big fan of these games and will never pass one up, get the set. If you are looking for your first Unlock box set, I would get another one first.

Not as good as the other Unlock! Adventures
I have all of the Unlock! Adventures released in the United States. They are one of my favorite puzzle games. Almost each of the other adventures has a really neat feature or "wow" moment (the race adventure comes close). If anything, I thought this series was boring (the race adventure is the best, but it goes downhill from there). They all seemed slightly more challenging, but simply not as interesting as the others.

Worst box set in the series.
Although there are worse _games_ in the Unlock! series than the three included in this box, I believe this is the worst overall set they ever released. It took them FOREVER to get this set released. You'd think if it took them that long, they'd at least have games that were worth waiting for. Unfortunately, they didn't. Action Story (Level 1): This started out promising, but then it took a twist and went downhill from there. I give the creator an 'A' for imagination, but a 'D' in application. [2.5 stars] Robin Hood: Dead or Alive (Level 2): I honestly don't know what to say about this game. Seriously, I'm dumbfounded. It's pretty bad. It's very app-heavy, and the machines were very temperamental, if they even worked at all (which most didn't). You would think that if the app needs access to your camera and/or microphone--which is a big red flag against the game--that they would tell you as much, so that you could adjust your settings if you wanted; and if you didn't want to grant access, they should have an alternate method of continuing the game without it. This game is riddled with technical difficulties. Even the parts that didn't rely on the app were a bit sketchy. [1 star] Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Burnt Angels (Level 3): This game is also way too app-heavy. It's akin to "Expedition: Challenger" and "Arsene Lupin and the Great White Diamond", meaning that you spend all your time running around from place to place. Pretty boring (IMO). However, it was indeed a challenging game... to the point where my wife was glued to the Walkthrough. The logic in several of these puzzles is, questionable, shall we say? [2 stars] Let me finish this lengthy review with a few general comments. First, this set as a whole has really turned me off of the Unlock! series, to the point where I won't cry if I never play another Unlock! game again. Space Cowboys needs to reevaluate what they're doing with this series, and I would humbly suggest that they go back to what made the earlier games a success in the first place, beginning with a return to the escape room format. These grandiose "quests" and "sagas" just aren't cutting it. Also, it has been my observation, having played every Unlock! game to date, that whenever the app takes over and becomes the primary focus of attention rather than a supporting tool, the games deteriorate fast. Yes, there have been rare exceptions (the Animal-O-Matic, perhaps), but in general the app should enhance the game, not be the game. Unfortunately, I've already bought the next set in the Unlock! series (Game Adventures), so we'll see how that goes; but honestly, I have zero enthusiasm to play the games at this time. I need some detox time from Unlock!.

Sherlock is good. Action is OK. Robin Hood is bad.
Sherlock has some nice puzzles and a thematic story. Action takes a hard thematic turn into something slightly better, but the puzzles are just bad. At the moment the world-building is succeeding, the puzzles feel like proving I'm not a robot to a website and bring me out of the experience. The Robin Hood scenario has augmented reality target shooting video games. These require bright lighting to function at all, and are fiddly regardless. The physical bits are nice, though.

Missing pieces, impossible puzzle
I like the Unlock series and bought this box to show it off to my family over the holidays. Unfortunately the game we played was missing critical pieces in order to solve the last puzzle. Instead of having six characters, we had duplicate of just three. Made for a bad first impression, and the last puzzle of the game (which is usually the most interesting) ended up being an impossible dud. I would probably skip this one unless you are trying to collect them all, and then I'd check right away to make sure you have the pieces.
