Great Price on a Reputable Lead and Collar

Got the size medium for my current dog. Her nose was 4" long and 7.25 circumference. Used a Gentle Leader years ago as my 1st Canaan was aging and becoming more over reactive to other dogs we saw on walks. My now 11yo Canaan has a neuro condition which has caused her to over react both in the house and on walks. With an 11.5 week old puppy arriving in 4 days, I picked this up along with the full mesh muzzle and wider nose strap type. This is most helpful in the house I found. However, the leash, when using with a carabiner, can be affixed to her current leash/harness and allow it to stop her naturally without any input from me - so more of a natural consequence. And this allows one hand to be free for either the other pups leash or fortifying my hold on her longer lead. I fully expected the nose strap to be the most useful but she can easily slide it off her face even on the tightest setting. So if she is rowdy with the cats, I might throw this on her instead of verbal prompts. She is learning quickly not to be so over reactive but not without a fuss. Solid company and bonus buy to get both leash and collar in the package.

A completely different dog

The gentle leader is incredible. I'd never have believed it if I didn't see it myself. If my dog gets overexcited or impatient with me when leash walking, on goes the gentle leader and her behavior immediately changes. Takes all the stress out of dog walking.

Different dog

My dog is very leash reactive toward other dogs and has always been a puller. Walks are an absolute dream with this thing. He didn't like the feeling on his face and tried to paw it off at first, but now he's associated it with walks and doesn't mind. If he does try to react to wnother dog, the behavior is instantly corrected and redirected easily. This thing is life changing!

Colorful puppy control

In the realm of pet training and handling the gentle leader is a very effective tool. But I can’t caution enough to be very careful when you handle your dog with this because it does hit on all the nerves and senses in their muzzle… You do want to be gentle with them when you handle them in this harness. It reinforces response and focus because it does hit those pressure points and the dog acts. My dog really wasn’t too thrilled with it at first but it is a very great tool when you’re around a crowd of people or other dogs because it forces the dog to focus on you the handler, and the harness that your leading them by. This particular harness I thought was a little bit on the light side. I would’ve liked it to be a little bit more in terms of thickness. I could see where my dog could chew through it pretty quickly if she was allowed to do that. The colors are fantastic in this particular design. That part I like it very much. I’m definitely saving this harness for special occasions. And if you have a dog who jumps up a lot this is great for keeping them at your side and discouraging to not jump up on other people. At least that’s been our experience. It also reduces the puller…. Some trainers do not like this product at all. I’m finding that there are a lot of different tools and harnesses and collars and leads that you can use. I think you really just have to find what works best for your pet. However I think using a variety of different tools can be very helpful, Especially when you’re trying to keep a fresh approach with your training. Don’t let tour dog get bored. And also approach all your training with love - good luck and try the “gentle leader”. I’ve seen very intense hyperactive dogs turned into little passive sweethearts with this tool, so I can say I can recommend it. It is definitely a great tool in your training box.

Works wonders

I bought this for my 45 lb goldendoodle puppy. She’s very reactive and has so much energy that when we walk, she loves to lunge and pull. Because of this, my husband is usually the one to hold the leash because she’s too heavy for me. We bought this leash and so far it’s worked wonders for us! We started by getting her used to it with treats and during the first two walks there was no pulling! It’s so easy for me to walk her now without having to constantly hold on to her tightly and pray another person doesn’t walk by us. I suggest holding the leash close to you while your dog gets used it.

Very effective

The gentle leader is very effective at controlling our hyper dog on walks. Gentle corrections are all it takes to keep her from chasing squirrels or trying to rip my arm off. The leash, however, is not great for grip, and we don’t use it. Additionally, our dog has been able to loosen the gentle leader several times, so we have to keep an eye on it to be sure it’s still correctly tightened.

Fantastic training tool for the right dog

Did we pay a few extra dollars for colorful donuts? Yes. Do I regret it? No. We tried a front clip harness and a slip lead before getting the gentle leader. The front clip harness did not stop our high energy pup from pulling. The slip lead did better, but would not stay high on her neck with slick hair. The gentle leader seems to have solved both of these problems. We watched some videos to learn how to get her appropriately acclimated to having it on her face. By the second day we were able to take her on a short walk and the pulling almost completely stopped before any correction. I think the placement on her face made her more subdued. The few times she did pull she was very easy to correct and was happy to get a treat when she came back to our side. After multiple days of walker her it’s clear that she is a totally different dog when walking with the gentle leader. It may not have the same results for everyone, but it is certainly working better than other corrective collars for our puppy. Well worth the one time expense to have a happy pup and happy owners. Wish we had tried this one first and saved money on the other two items!

Great quality

Cannot say enough about this leash. One of the best! Bought for two dogs to date. One of my dog's pulled so hard on a regular leash that I thought I would pull out my arm. I instantly bought this leash, and this dog was tamer and walked in lock step with me. Don't hesitate to buy this leash, you will not regret it!

Unsafe head collars. Please use a collar coupling if you buy these!

Bought the similar head collars and leads a year or so ago in the 'donuts print. I always use Gentle Leaders and find them very safe. The Poppy print ones look lovely and compliments my black dogs, however, the clasps/adjusters are not safe. They allow the webbing to slide through to maximum lenght allowing the dog to get free of the device??? This never happened with the 'donut print head collars. I am so glad I ALWAY use a collar coupling or my dogs would have been free on a busy road. I've had to see them to stop the webbing slipping. Won't buy again as too risky. Amazon...these should have a warning on them!

GREAT DESIGN GENTLE LEADER - UK STOCKIST TAKE NOTE!

I love this design and had to buy from America. Why are all the UK ones boring old plain blue, black and red colours? Dogs just wanna have fun too! Great quality - came with a lead, instruction booklet and informative DVD. I love the Gentle leader. It is easy to use and gives you so much control without jerking and pulling your poor old pooch, who cannot help himself being sooo enthusiastic about walks and teasing cats!

Best for mild correction, not suitable for true pullers.

To summarize, you end up with a colourful fun design in exchange for the actual durability of the product. The standard black gentle leader may ride into the eyes on occasion, but it does the job in redirection with the appropriate pressure. Whereas with this head-collar, it tends to slide around the muzzle and my dog has even slipped out of the muzzle piece twice now, and yes he is wearing it as guided. I don't consider this very safe as there is no added clip to connect with the collar which is the typical design for most gentle leaders. I intend to go back to the black standard head collar. The pattern is very sweet, had no issues with him wearing it for prolonged periods, but it's best saved for dogs that need mild correction. Determined pullers are safest on a more durable head collar, even though this pattern is adorable. :)
