A very good closer for the money, just beware of your materials & needs. It won't work for ANY kind of door but will for most.
I bought the Satin Chrome door closer Jan 6th & had it installed in about 20 minutes on a door roughly 90-110 lbs on ball bearing hinges mounted to a metal door frame. Because the Hinges are ball bearing, the door closes really easily. Being a heavy door with glass, I had my reservations as this doesn't actually control the door closing, it simply pushes the door closed. The closer comes with a 5" closer rod, the closer spring housed in a cylindrical mount, a rod guide, a spring tension bar (about 1-1/4"), some hole caps, & (4) wood screws about 1" long. Upon mounting the closer, I marked the area I wanted the closer on a metal frame & began drilling a pilot hole. My drill bits are designed for metal but this is a heavy gauge steel frame & after about 40 seconds of drilling I realized I needed some oil to continue so I checked my progress and discovered I'd barely made a dent. I suppose if you have the patience & oil to drill metal this will work on a heavy gauge steel door frame but I had neither, so I improvised. I'm glad the rod is as long as it is & wish it was a little longer as I mounted the closer directly aft the steel door frame. With the door frame about 1-1/2" wide, I lost about 1-3/4" of rod to the door so the closer will have to work harder with less leverage. With the door on ball bearing hinges I was hoping this would compensate for the speed of the closing of the door, I didn't need a lot. I drilled the hole for the screws smaller than the diameter of the screws in hopes of having some good bite for the screws as these screws were going into steel studs, not wood. Please realize, for every action there is an opposite & equal reaction. There are some pics from previous posts showing the spring housing tearing out of the wall or tearing the wood frame from the wall. As much force as you are using to close the door, there is an equal amount of force on the screws trying to pull or torque the spring housing from the wall or door frame. You need a good bite on the screws & preferably twice as deep as the sheet rock wall or wood frame. Most manufacturers selling items such as this door closer provide the minimum required size of screw & many times these screws fail to get adequate bite. It is advisable to stop by the nearest Home Depot & pick up some deeper screws before mounting this door closer. You want the screws biting into the wood or steel stud, not just the door frame or sheet rock. Especially if you have to torque this closer a few times. After mounting the spring housing, I added the closer rod briefly to the spring just to find where the guide would sit & marked it. Then removing the closing rod I mounted the guide onto the door. The door closer has (4) holes for the closer rod, each at 90 degrees. Putting the tension bar in the hole perpendicular to the wall, I tensioned the closer & added the closer rod parallel to the wall & within the guide. Then removed the tension bar & tested the door closer. All I needed was a little push & the weight of the door would do the rest so a quarter tension on the closer worked beautifully ... for about a week. There is a break-in period with any given spring (especially torque springs) & this one goes about a week with mid to heavy traffic through the door. After the first week the door closer was not pushing the door near as much as when I first installed it, thus the door would not close completely. Adding another quarter tension to the door actually pushes the door a little too much & the door now slams shut. Not enough to break the glass but enough that I am uncomfortable with it. NOTE TO MANUFACTURER: It would be nice if there were (5) holes evenly spaced around the spring instead of just the (4) holes at 90 degrees. Tension could then be adjusted a bit easier for the user & the user could determine or control a little better how much tension to put on the spring / door. As noted in other reviews, there's a noise associated with this spring closer. Pick up some Lithium grease or other good quality lubricant when you pick up your screws (the instructions suggest NOT using WD-40) & you'll be golden for quite some time. If you are using this on standard pin hinges, you can use the grease or lubricant on the spring closer & your pin hinges of the door to reduce the friction of the hinge for a smooth closing action. [Update 11.03.2017] - This closer is still working as it should. Haven't adjusted it since the last posted adjustment a week after installation, almost a year ago. I highly recommend this, especially on ball bearing hinges. I'm thinking this will last for quite a few years.

Works well enough given the price - could be better.
This spring-loaded door closer certainly does the job - but not without some caveats. Installation: It's not clear from the pictures, but there are 4 pieces when you open the package. The spring closer body, the push bar, a shoe for the push bar, and a tensioner bar used to rotate the center ring. The push bar screws into one of the 4 sockets on the closer body - you choose which one by using the tensioner bar to pre-tension the internal springs and then selecting the appropriate socket. It's difficult to explain - maybe I'll do a video later. The shoe provides some protection to the door from the push bar rubbing against it when it does its job. The closer body screwed into the wall or door frame - wood screws are provided. Functionality: Yes, this setup is adjustable tension - but it is not infinitely adjustable. There are set amounts of force you can set for the door closer. If you don't like the preset tensions - too bad. It's either going to close too hard or not hard enough. Build quality: This is the same asPrime-Line Products KC10HD Safety Spring Door Closer, White except in satin chrome. It reminds me of galvanized steel - like it's made of the same material as chain link fences. It feels like it's solid metal - not a lot of worry about the device breaking. I'm not so sure that some door frames are going to be up to the amount of force this will put on the frame and molding. Only time will tell. Noise: This was my biggest disappointment. I had read about noise complaints in other reviews, but figured - how bad could it be? When I first installed it, I learned it can be really bad. The device had a loud grating sound - analogous to someone opening a garage door. Other reviews mentioned grease; so I tried dripping teflon lubricant into the body and moving/shaking parts to try to coat whatever was inside. This had hardly any affect, so I took the nuclear option. I took the one screw that holds the whole thing together, and I discovered that there was a rusty spring inside that was rubbing on itself every time the door closer moved. So I coated _everything_ inside with some white lithium grease and re-assembled it. This solved the problem - quiet as can be now. I wish the manufacturer would spend an additional $0.50 to improve this detail and this could easily by a 5-star review.

Nice small size, but didn't work well for my fire door
I purchased this for fire door between my house and garage. By code, you need a self-closing mechanism on a door like this and I didn't want anything to big and industrial looking, and thought this would be perfect. It did seem to work well at first, but I really needed to crank up the tension to get the door to latch consistently - so much so that the small tensioning bar that came with it was not enough, so I used a long machine screw instead. Think the torqueing was too much for this little guy and one day I hard something snap, and it no longer latched the door, plus it caused the molding around the door to separate. Think this would work very well for a different kind of interior door, but the seals around a fire door require too much extra "oomph" to close.

I installed this on my gate for my pool ladder because the one that came with the ladder broke. This one works like a champ super value

Slim design better than bulky, expensive door closer
Very good option for a door that needs to close, but a bulky door closer would not fit. Easy to adjust. The only con is the open nature of the design “sprays” some kind of mechanical “dust” on the door from the rod moving back and forth (see pic).

Very effective
It does what I needed it to do, keep my bedroom door shut. I house share and the other house member has a dog. I don't want his dog going in my bedroom and once in a while I would forget to shut the door and find the dog in their. This gadget solved my problem. I gave it a four and not a 5 because it does make a noise. Not loud or terrible, but late at night, it might be audible.

No me funciono
Lo necesitaba para una puerta de metal y aún que le puse 2 no logro cerrar por completo la puerta, supongo que solo funciona en puertas de madera o puertas más ligeras.
