Iwwerpréift séier an einfach d'Ammoniakniveauen vun Ärem Aquarium mat API AMMONIA TESTSTRIPS. Fësch verëffentlechen kontinuéierlech Ammoniak an den Aquarium duerch hir Kiemen, Urin a festen Offall. Uneaten Liewensmëttel a zerfallend organesch Matière addéieren och Ammoniak zum Waasser. Ammoniak ass gëfteg fir Fësch a kann Schied, Stress an Doud verursaachen. Regelméisseg Tester ass recommandéiert well Ammoniakniveauen séier kënne bauen wéinst Fëschoffall an net iessen Liewensmëttel. Daucht einfach den Teststreifen an d'Waasser, vergläicht dann d'Resultater mat der präzis, einfach ze liesen Faarfkodéierter Grafik fir ze bestëmmen ob iergendeng Handlung sollt gemaach ginn. D'Diagramm enthält Empfehlungen fir d'Waasser ze behandelen an Ammoniak ze neutraliséieren. Sécher fir ze benotzen am frësche a Salzwaasser. Mat API Aquarium Produkter ass et einfach e schéine Salzwasser, Séisswaasser oder Riff Aquarium ze halen. Quick and easy in seconds to get an idea of what it is.
Ammonia test kits can be a pain with the process to get a specimen to read and matching it to the color tints. This kit I'm sure is off by 5% but to get a rough ball park of where your ammonia is at then I would suggest them. Dip them in for 2 seconds then match the color to the color pallet on the label. Simple and quick. If your looking for an exact measurement then I would suggest some of the higher end brands that of course are twice the cost.

Accurate pH tester for fish water
Really happy I purchased these ... after learning via PetSmart that our tap water was super low pH due to a shallow well which apparently killed our betta fish after 7 days. I got these to test our water with conditioner (yes, I was too lazy to take another sample to the store and I'm pretty sure they use these same strips). I also wanted to test our bottled spring water, which is what I use for our new fish (no added conditioner on my part). I learned with these sticks that our tap water, with or without added conditioner, is very low pH and our jug of spring water is perfect. Our fish is still alive (and very active) so I'm thinking these testers are very accurate. I may never need 20 of these but for $6 I'm glad I have them ... if we move, get a saltwater tank etc. Overview-you take a strip, swirl it twice in the water, don't shake off and wait 30 seconds (I found waiting a bit longer was more accurate). The color is a little off if you look 5 minutes later so don't wait too long). Done. Easy and accurate.

Good if you know what you are getting
This product does not distinguish between ammonia, which is dangerous to fish, and ammonium, which is not, and should be removed by your filter, although very high amounts may overwhelm your filter, and take the place of other important things in the water. If you get consistently low readings, then this strip is all you need; a one-time high reading that drops when you add an ammonia reducing product also is a situation that is adequately taken care of with this type of strip. However, if you have daily high readings, and your fish seem healthy, you have some kind of problem like ammonium in your source (eg, tap) water. You can use a strip to test the tap water, but if it reads high, you will probably need to buy a type of test kit that distinguishes between ammonia and ammonium. These are much more expensive, and more complicated to use. There is no reason to jump to this kind of kit in the beginning, though, if your readings with these strips are in the safe range, and your fish are healthy. You should read them under a good light, at least a 100W incandescent, or the equivalent, and use the same light source every time. Most people keep the lights around the tank subdued. If you do, take a water sample, and then go to another place with better light to do the test.

Good tester
Test strips give the same reading as the more complicated and time consuming liquid testers. Yes we're talking only 5 minutes, but why wait with the availability of a quick and easy test.

Great product
Quick and easy to use. There were some strips in the package that literally were missing the material in the business end of the strip, which is why I only gave it 4 stars. I don't think they're quite as accurate as the ones where you add the solution drops, but they are an excellent guide and a worthy investment.

Very useful
The API Ammonia Test Strips have been working very well for me. There is a correct way to hold the test strip, with a reactive pad within a clear plastic strip. One side of the pad is white, and the other side has a yellow tinge of color, and this is the side that gives you the results. Make sure to wait for 60 seconds before comparing the strip to the measurements on the bottle.

These don’t work, but it’s not the sellers fault.
When I purchased these I was hoping my life as a fish mom would be made a bit easier, but it wasn’t. I was confused by the plastic covering the test part of the strip, and so I called the company that makes this product to ask about it. From the mouth of the representative I spoke with, the plastic on the top of the test square is intentionally placed. It is done this way so that the reactive chemical on the strip to test for ammonia, is not over exposed. This is not done to protect the pad before use, so peeling it apart/open is not intended/recommended. Apparently the water you're testing is meant to seep through the open sides of the strip when you expose it, and then give you a reading after the mentioned wait time. However I tried this multiple times, and saw no changes to the strips when compared to unexposed tests or after ripping off the plastic covering and retesting. I have since decided to return these for a refund and chose to buy from aquarium co-op instead, as they sell a version that not only works accurately but comes in a 100 count for less money. Lastly for those also curious like I was, the ammonia test strips are made separately from the 5 in 1 test strips as the chemical to test for ammonia would produce incorrect results for the rest of the things you’re testing for with the 5 in 1 one strips. It’s not just for marketing purposes…you’re welcome.

Wasn’t a fan of the individually wrapped tests. I ripped a tab off opening one of them.

Faulty and bad readings
Got these strips after setting up a new tank. I used them correctly to get the result of ammonia and it showed 6.0 EVERY time (the max amount which would kill fish eventually) I panicked and have been adding anti ammonia stuff to my tank for MONTHS now ontop of frequent water changes because these strips said the ammonia was so high. I have been cleaning the tank like crazy and worrying about the fish’s health and lives I read online that the strips aren’t as accurate as a liquid type test. So I bought one of those, turns out ammonia is 0 - yes, ZERO!!!!! So I’ve been giving my fish extra chemicals and water changes which stress them out, based on the reading from these FAULTY strips. I tested the strip in a newly opened bottle of water, and guess what, it showed ammonia at 6.0 ...... DO NOT BUY THESE! Get a liquid test, they are way more accurate

Faulty
Setted up a new tank this morning. This evening i took an ammonia reading, the strip made no changes. So tested my old fish tank. Made no changes, so i guess the reviews were right. They dont work ! Also used the 5 in 1 strips, they did alter slightly but according to it, it be safe to put my fish in the new tank of water that isnt 12 hours old..... some thing seems wrong. UPDATE one week later, these strips never altered, so I compared bothering strips to both fish tanks, they are saying the same. I don't think they are reliable or maybe my water in my area doesn't need much altering. I dunno. Fish are swimming happily in their new tank

Buy a liquid test instead.
I used these strips about twice a week to check ammonia. Always clear - so I congratulated myself on good tank water. Did it again this am - clear. Then I did a completely new tank I am cycling - clear. Then I had my doubts. These strips are in a sort of plastic sleeve to hold them in place. You dip them and the water gets into the sleeve and so the water is tested. I worried that the water was not actually getting in when you do as it says on the packet - dip in in the water for 5 seconds. So I bent the sleeve a little, dipped it then. Still clear, but now a little blue just around the very edges. 'Do not shake the strip' it says. But I was still not confident about the test - I was not confident that enough water was reaching the whole piece of material. So I squeezed it a bit to ensure water got in it and sure enough - when I could see that the water was actually getting to the strip - It was very blue and not clear yellow any more at all! Horrendous ammonia level! Do not buy these - they are rubbish. I am buying a proper liquid kit now so that I actually get a reliable test, for my money.

Does not work
I noticed my new orandas had a few lifted scales so I bought this and tested my water at Pets At Home and two different independent pet stores because I wanted to be certain. This strip did not work instantly as stated or correctly. All the pet stores told me that my ammonia was high but these strips showed that the ammonia was 0ppm or none. I've tried this several times and the result was the same. A very disappointing purchase.

API Ammonia test strips - quick and easy ????
I love these strips ???? Bought them for the first time from Amazon last week as I was fed up of racing down to my local pet store with water samples from my fish tank! They were really easy to use - was worried at first that it would be difficult but it's really not: just hold the strip in the tank water for the instructed time, wait for 60 seconds then compare the colour of the strip to the colour chart with the product. Not sure of accuracy but these are the exact same strips my local pet shop were using to test the tank water (I checked..) so if they're good enough for them, I figured they're good enough for me too ????
