Take that heron!
I'm drinking coffee by my pond this morning and thought I'd just snap a picture of what these actually look like because I think many of the negative reviews are unfair. Yes, these show. Yes, they float. Yes, they catch debris. But hallelujah, my fish are alive! I inherited this small, heron and racoon friendly pond and this product is the only reason I have fish this year. I lost two last month with the pond only partially covered so I decided to just cover the whole darn thing. So far so good!

DOES NOT WORK!
Bought this because a heron was getting my goldfish. It was urgent and needed something quick. I was so excited to put this together and put it around my pond edges. It immediately sank! I gently lifted it and it sank again!! Defeats the whole purpose of floating to prevent the heron from walking onto the shelf in the pond to get to the fish. My fish are still swimming over it up to the edge of the pond and the heron can still walk right onto this since it is now laying on the rocks. I tried tying a lightweight string to both sides to lift it out of the water and it still didn't work. I woke up at 6:15 this am and found the heron outside and my favorite fish and largest guy, Gil was gone. So devastated. Don't waste your time or money. Maybe this would work if you only use 2 or 3 pieces of it.

Did not repel raccoons
I spent several days putting these over my pond, two rows/rings around the pond, and then filling in small gaps with pieces I cut up. It was a ton of work but I was really happy thinking I would be able to finally remove the ugly net from my pond. On the up side, they did float just under the water, and they could not be seen very well from more than maybe six feet away. I was very happy with their appearance. On the very, very down side, three nights after I stopped putting the net over the top of my pond because I had completed this project, I found two of my fish half-eaten lying in my backyard. I'm heartbroken because one of them was one of the original pair we stocked the pond with and was a special favorite. I cannot recommend this product for repelling raccoons. Maybe it works for herons.

These Work "Kinda" Well, But....
The principle is pretty good and the protectors help w/o violating the feeling of having an ornamental pond in the first place. "Butt", there's a real but here - these protectors are NOT going to stay in position, regardless of the pictures you see, especially if you have moving water. We had to secure and tie the chain of protectors at various locations to the perimeter in order to roughly keep them where we want them. And order (the merchant will like this!) more than you think you need as almost certainly you will need to reinforce areas of concern. I didn't like the domed nets and they don't fit unless you build a pond to their dimensions and the whole idea of our ponds it for a natural setting anyway but in the end, I'm still trying to figure out a better alternative!

So far so good
Only have had them in the pond for a few days, so far so good. They were a little smaller diameter than I expected and so didn't cover as much surface as I would have like. I would suggest getting more than one package if you have more than a few linear feet to cover or want to have more than a single row. They do float just below the surface as advertised and do not obstruct the visual effect of the pond. The fish seem to enjoy swimming under them and playing with them.

Keeps my fish safe!!!
I bought these 2 seasons ago. they work great... keeping birds away from my fish. you almost can't see them in the pond.

Around the Edges
We ordered more than was needed. The thing to remember is you only need to go around the edges of your pond. Bird B Gone seems to be working well so far. Don't forget to use floating plants to shade the center of your pond.
