Updated: Same as Epix Gen 2 + Aviation Features for Pilots (Real or Flight Simulators)
Updated 02/09/2023: Just noticed too many scratches on the metal body/frame even with normal use. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Garmin has so many options with same platform targeted towards different demographics and built to different needs. I initially went with Epix G2 but then with additional research, I found this watch it is not much different. I use Flight Simulator MSFS 2020 and X-Plane. I also use Garmin Pilot, to which this watch can connect and share data. Software Features: D2 Mach 1: Nearly all of the Epix G2 + Aviation Connectivity with Garmin Pilot: Yes, I was able to successfully connect to Garmin Pilot without any issues. Why I am paying just $50 more (and not $200), when compared to Epix G2?: Epix Gen 2: 1 silicon strap, NO Leather strap and NO Aviation Features. D2 Mach 1: 1 silicon strap + 1 Garmin's Quick Fit Leather Strap (retails at $150.00) + Aviation Features: $50.00 In a nutshell, my D2 Mach 1's day to day experience was no different than Epix G2. Brighter AMOLED screen was key to select this (and Epix G2) watch. Offline maps can come handy anytime where there weak or no cellular connection. Just one incident can make additional dollars worth it and can be a life saver. On the health side, I tried HR Monitor and it is very much accurate in comparison with Polar H10 chest strap. They are 1-2 bpm on or off. There are time I felt HR was not correct I simply take watch off my wrist and put it on again. This watch gives nice data especially for Sleep, Stress, Body Battery etc. I compared sleep results with Withings Sleep Analytics (under bed sensor). They are close enough in final results. Also sleeping with this watch is not that bad. The strap is so soft that I don't even realize that I am wearing a watch. Stress metrics are also very helpful. (Rest, Low, Med, High). Waiting on HRV as it takes some time (weeks) to give more accurate data. I don't miss EKG functionality on this watch. I am in my mid 50's. So I decided to go with Kardia 6L (6 Leads vs Single Lead on watches) for better data, and, also if I go with their Care plan I can get additional analysis and results reviewed (I think 4) by Cardiologists, which is not bad for $100.00/yr. Negative Point: This watch won't integrate with Apple Health, Google Fit, Android Health Connect or various other health tools (other than Strava). This means you cannot exchange data from different sources/eco-systems with Garmin. But, the Garmin Connect app can collect a lot of data from the watch and also allows you to manually enter data for analysis. Additionally, data can be viewed from Web Portal which is a plus. This watch provides lot of advanced Analysis without any additional service cost.

Powerful, but lacking in core tracking features and interface intuitiveness
I have owned fitbits for years, but recently obtained my private pilot's license and thought that this would be a great upgrade to my fitbit. It is, for sure. The capabilities are actually a bit surprising (that it fits into a watch) and numerous (golf GPS, exercise tracking, direct-to flight GPS, digital wallet/pay, etc.) -- but for the money required I would have expected a more intuitive interface and better performance on some of the basic features. For example, when I walk - the garmin and fitbit both track equal steps (almost exactly). But when I exercise, the Garmin seems to lose track of the steps (40%+ are not counted) when compared to a fitbit or apple watch. Garmin support has nothing meaningful to offer as an explanation. Sleeping stats are equally sub-par -- often mis-tracking when I fall asleep or wake up and it has no ability to capture naps (not even manually -- only 1 sleep entry per day). And then there's the interface...you have 5 buttons and a touch screen -- so it would seem like a highly capable device when compared to the 1-button fitbit sense or 1-button apple watch, but alas, no. The buttons make it confusing and, for some unintuitive reason, you have to go to different screens to get to the GOLF app verses the PAYMENT app vs the SETTINGS screen, etc. Seriously? As another example - as a pilot, one of the data points that is most compelling and AVAILABLE on the watch is the weather (METAR, TAF, MOS) -- but it is incredibly difficult to actually navigate to it unless you're checking on your "favorite" airport. Say, for instance, I'm flying from point A to point C and want to check weather BEFORE i arrive. Point A will be easy (home airport), but the fastest way to navigate to other airports is to look for those "closest" -- which isn't necessarily the airport you want to look at. I finally gave up using it. I look forward to more upgrades/features, but at this point - it's really a great talking point (show and tell) but not highly usable. The battery life is awesome and the watch bands are nice - the capabilities are pretty

Good training tool. Bad aviation tool. Operational safety hazard.
- not possible to reorder preloaded datafields on FLY app. - when you try to create a customizable datafield (to circum-navigate the above deficiency), you figure out UTC time and TRK are not content options for custom datafields on FLY app. TRK is basic parameter on GPS navigation, yet not available for a custom datafield (only on preload that one cannot reorder). - Basic Aviation terms are mixed up with training GPS terms. GPS Heading has no meaning in aviation and causes confusion with other poor definitions like Heading, Compass heading, etc. An aviation professional knows what those terms mean, but guess what, they don’t mean the same on this watch. Garmin Aviation is a benchmark on GPS and helped shaping the common used definitions on the industry. Unfortunately, apparently Garmin Aviation did not talk to Garmin Health department during this development.. - Manual is incomplete in explaining the meaning of terms that do no exist on aviation GPS, etc. The list goes on…nobody is more frustrated than myself for having to return this watch. Even though it is constructed out of premium materials and is a hood looking watch, operation as an aviation tool is very poor. You’re better of with a portable aviation GPS as a back up or even an ipad running Garmin pilot.

Battery went forth 30 days
Battery went bad in first month , settings for battery is sad because most features you want on all the time drain battery

A watch for golf and hiking...with aviation pasted in
This watch is loaded with features to remember every hole of thousands of golf courses, hiking trails, etc. Oh, it is also a pilot watch, and maybe that's why you want it. I found it to be cumbersome and difficult to use in the cockpit. The instructions are poor at best. I returned mine before the battery died. 2 stars is actually generous.
