This universal design has thin cross tabs that break off too easily

I purchased this product in Menards and found that this spacer had narrow cross tabs that can be broken off if not used where 4 tiles meet. These little tabs also break off too easily. Better to purchase the non-universal version. Also, you must make certain that there is little to no thinset or adhesive near this spacer. Otherwise, it will break off at the surface and then you have to dig it out prior to grouting. The videos make it look easy, but I will not be using this product again. I'm returning the entire set.
