Mixed feelings + notes after months of use

For many years, I owned another set of uv sleeves made by another company. I can't remember what they were called after I lost them and I'm not sure I would have reordered them if I did. They had their drawbacks, particularly the fact that, since they had no elastic they didn't stay up. They also weren't long enough to cover my arms if I was sleeveless and, since they only came in white, they were very noticeable. If I remember correctly, they were also much more expensive. These have solved all those problems at a pretty reasonable cost. They don't drop down, (size large) they're long enough to cover my arms all the way up and, since I ordered beige (which is sort of flesh color) they don't stand out as much. Nevertheless, I can't say I'm delighted: Yes, they stay up, but they are not exactly easy to pull up. I scratched my arm with my nails trying to put them on and drag them up. The tightness is not uncomfortable--once they're on--but getting them on takes some getting used to, especially since the ones I used before were, literally, like sleeves. These are more like support hose for the arms. Since they have a thumb hole, there is a right and a left sleeve and an inside and outside to each sleeve. My old set had a sort of flap beginning at the wrist to cover the top of the hands, almost to the knuckles. These are completely tubular from top to bottom (with a thumb opening). They also cover the hands all the way to the knuckles, but the problem is that they cover both the top and bottom of the hands. I don't like this for two reasons: first, it makes the sleeve into a sort of half-glove which is gives you a slippery grip if you're using them while driving. Secondly, the bottom of the hand gets soiled requiring more frequent laundering. They are no cooler or warmer than my old set and take up less room in my purse than the old ones. They also air dry much quicker than my old set. They are 87% cocona fabric(not sure what that is, but it's related to coconuts) and 13% spandex. The label says it could be tumble dried and maybe I will next time to see if it loosens up a bit. Notes added almost a year later: I really regret getting these. The sleeves didn't stretch or loosen up, they remained hard to pull on despite use and laundering. (Some may consider this a benefit). Frankly, I just stopped using them because struggling to put them on was one of those hassles I tend to postpone or avoid, and the snug fit was bothersome. I just put them aside and eventually ordered another brand that has worked out a lot better. (They are SunGrubbies brand, which Amazon carries, but not the "driving sleeves" I ordered and am happy with.)

Effective sun protection, cooling, and safe around my infant daughter

With an infant daughter who loves to plant her mouth on my arms when I hold her, I had to find an alternative to putting sunscreen on my arms for her to ingest. These sleeves fit the bill and have performed as advertised. No sun burn even on hours-long walks in the summer midday sun. The pleasant surprise was that they often do feel cooling on my arms when there's a gentle breeze; despite reading that they would do that, I run hot and even tech clothing has always made me feel hotter, so I didn't believe it until I experienced it. Why these and not just a long-sleeved shirt? Because I'm much more comfortable in short sleeves and can easily take these off once I reach my indoor destination. They're nice and thin, so they fold small enough to fit in a cargo pants pocket, too, making them always at the ready to throw back on when I head outside again. The extra back-of-hand coverage is an added perk. My only reason for four stars instead of five is the fit. They're the right tightness on my arms, but I have to be vigilant to keep them up all the way to meet my shirt sleeves. If I sized up, I'm guessing from the specs that they'd be long enough, but too baggy. I think I'm doomed to get a burn stripe in that gap someday and wish they'd just add extra length and let you fold it over at the top if it is too long. Another negative: they've picked up some dirt marks in a few months of near-daily use that don't come out in the wash. My other clothing doesn't have these, so it would appear that these are more prone to staining. All in all, these serve their purpose and I'm happy with my purchase. Stylish they are not, but my skin is safe and so is my daughter, so I'm pleased. I'm even considering getting a second pair so that I can wash them more frequently but always have one at hand. If that isn't a ringing endorsement, I don't know what is.

Exactly what I was looking for

I ordered these to wear while motorcycle riding on hot, sunny days. I've gotten tired of having to wear a long sleeved shirt over my tank top or regular t-shirt. It keeps the sun and wind off, but I don't like the extra layer when it's hot. I ordered the small size on a Friday and held my breath that they'd get here before we left for our annual weekend motorcycle trip the following weekend. They arrived by Thursday, so they got here in plenty of time. I slipped them on to see how they fit and even though I was inside, they felt cool on my arms (I'd just come in from unloading groceries in 90 degree heat). They seem to fit fine without binding; I like that they cover my hands and extend well underneath a regular t-shirt sleeve. They might even work with a tank top with addition of a small piece of 2-sided tape. My arms are relatively skinny so I'll be interested to see if they continue to stay up over a long day of riding in sun and heat. I will update my review once they've been "road tested." EDIT: I was very happy with the performance of these sleeves. They stayed up all day, no problem with sagging or slipping down. They prevented sunburn and windburn on my arms and hands, and felt cool during all but the very, very hottest part of the day. (Sunny and 90+ degrees in mid-afternoon) Wetting them felt fabulous - other reviewers have said it feels like air conditioning and they're right. If only they'd stay wet for more than a few minutes on a moving motorcycle! Maybe I'll start carrying a small spray bottle with me for a quick cool-down when needed. (I'm a passenger, not driving!) It was nice not to have to mess with a long sleeve shirt. Off the bike, they were easy to slip off, roll up and tuck in my back pocket.

Nice Sun Sleeves

I need sun sleeves to work in the garden and I don't want to hassle with sunscreen. These are very comfortable and stay up on my thin arms. I like that they stay up but don't cut off your circulation. The only down side is the price for me. Worth it but not in my budget right now. I bought the aqua color and they are super pretty but will show dirt easily if working in a garden.
