Toasting Slots - Their Width is Fine But the Length ... ?
Got my toaster yesterday and immediately put it to use. I eat normal whole grain bread from a pre-sliced loaf just like most folks do. The brand of bread is a popular market brand that should easily fit into a toaster slot. This particular toaster barely accomodates a bread slice: I either have to practically force it into the slot or I have to turn it lenghwise in the slot so that it will pop up when finished. To me it's not a big deal because everything else about this toaster is well-designed and it's simple to use. But I know that to some folks, that's a show stopper. Anyway I still like this toaster and will continue to use it. Check out the pics I took complete with ruler ...

Wide short slots
We eat orrowheat bread, which is a bit longer bread slices. Toaster had wider slots for bagels but not very long for longer bread. :(

Basic Toaster
They are wide slots, for thicker pieces of bread like bagels. However, if you buy *wider* loaves of bread like Killer Dave's or anything that isn't your standard Wonder white bread size, it struggles to fit. Also, the piece inside the toaster that holds the bread (that pulls it down/pushes up), isn't very big and we've had bread slide down off that piece and get stuck in the toaster. This was an inexpensive option, and it "works" but I might buy my next toaster in person so I can get something that better fits our needs.

Sunbeam Wide Slot 4-Slice Toaster (doesn't handle our favorite bread)
This is a pretty good toaster all things considered but in our particular case, the bread that we routinely eat is too long to properly fit the slots lengthwise - as seen in the photos, the slots are large enough for most slices of bread but not long enough for our bread. You can toast half the bread then the other half but then it tends to dry out - as an alternative, we can cut a slice in half and use 2 slots to toast 1 piece though that defeats the purpose of having a 4 slice toaster if both my wife and I want 2 slices of toast at the same time. Historically we used a toaster oven for toasting so we never considered the fact a standard size toaster would not handle a long slice of bread. That was our mistake but we otherwise like the toaster and are going to keep it. It's faster than the toaster oven and of course uses less power. Other commenters have remarked about the short electrical cord located at the front right side and while it is a bit on the short side, this hasn't been an issue for us. Aside from the issue of the bread length, it otherwise toasts quickly and evenly and has multiple individual settings for each set of slots.
