Random hardwood, useless unless you paint

I'm not sure what these are really good for. There is no indication anywhere what species they are for so if you're thinking about matching them then you're just guessing. I think it is some random hardwood but just not sure as it doesn't look like oak or maple and not really poplar. Buy the same species and grain direction unless you don't care if it sticks out.

Not what I expected

I don't know what these are made of but it's not wood. Appears to be some kind of resin wood blend. I have been building cabinetry and furniture for better than 20 years. My hand tools are sharp enough to shave with. They're touched up before every use with a diamond hone. They shave oak hair thin but they wouldn't slide through these plugs. It even sands funny, like a plastic resin, not wood. Not for serious woodworking where it will show. Thankfully I used them on the bottom rails of a rocker where they're hidden. I'm almost certain they won't take stain. Very disappointed.
