Disappointing
Note: I bought the "Deluxe Edition" directly from Hourglass Escapes because I was excited to get my hands on it and didn't want to wait for stock to become available on Amazon. I had high hopes for this, because the company has a great reputation for its in-person escape rooms, but unfortunately it's a pretty bad video game and it's also a pretty bad escape/puzzle game. Two wrongs don't make a right. Nothing I see in the instructions tells you this, but you have to play on a computer: the browser on an iPad does not work -- it will load, but things you need to click on do not appear in the web version of Safari. On a MacBook running Firefox everything works and I imagine this would be true for most if not all other computer/browser combos. The interface for navigating the 3D scenes is clunky, the graphics are dark and muddy ("atmospheric" to the point of nearly being unplayable). There are a lot of "hunt the pixel" puzzles (some interactive areas have little sparkles, but others require you to mouse around until you notice the faint outline that appears around a handful out of a scene full of objects that are all the same color) and the puzzles are mostly mediocre. The voice acting is good but largely irrelevant as there aren't many voiced lines. The animated scene transitions are fine, but overall the graphics are at a 90s adventure game level. The physical props in the box are nicely made, but entirely unnecessary to the experience -- several of the puzzles are just "find the thing in the box that looks like the thing on the screen and identify the missing data" and for the rest you just click to overlay a digital/virtual version of the physical prop onto the screen. If I need to overlay a thing on another thing, and both of those things are made out of paper, why not give me both of those things in the box so that I can at least do the puzzle entirely in the real world, instead of giving me one physical thing and one virtual thing? I can't honestly recommend this to fans of in-person escape games (of which I have played hundreds) and I also can't honestly recommend this to fans of "escape room in a box" games (of which I have played dozens).

Super Fun for a family or friends evening at home
We did the escape room first in Seattle at Hourglass and had so much fun that we bought this boxed version right after. The box version is a prequel to the escape room in case that helps with your planning. Overall, we spent a couple of hours on this game and we were super impressed with the overall detail of the puzzels and creativity of this game. Highly recommend to up-level an escape room at home experience. Note that you will need a laptop (we had two laptops for a family of four) and projected one laptop on the larger TV.
