Not even close to accurate

Used it to proof down some everclear. Seemed the finished product was pretty strong. Tested it on pure everclear and it read 80 proof (not percent) Finally tested it on a purchased bottle of rum. The zero floated an inch or so above the top of the test sample.

The first one arrived broken in two. The replacement arrived broken in two. If by some chance a third arrived intact, I'm certain it wouldn't stand up to normal laboratory use. I chose the refund...while I'm ahead.

Nice combination temperature alcohol hydrometer. My first use could have broken a cheaper unit - I dropped it into a solution that did not have enough fluid. So the unit made a "thud" sound as it hit the bottom of my glass cylinder. I don't recommend dropping the unit into solution, just gently float it. But anyway it survived. The possible extra cost of made in USA is well worth it. I use it with Isopropyl alcohol. The readings of course are off from Ethanol, but a simple offset calculation allows the unit to work just fine. Initially I was confused on how to use the thermometer to make temperature corrections to my readings. But with a search for Table 1 from the TTB Gauging Manual - a Fahrenheit correction method was easy to understand and use.
