Great but other better option for me for too much less
I tried 10 clip shoes to evaluate for aggressive mountain biking - XC with aggressive downhill descents (didnt ride with them just tried for fit/feel) these were my top 2 or 3 after trying 9 (all other options cost at $75-$250 LESS, top 3 were this, giro chamber (great but heavy was only problem), mavic something or other elite) but i was having a very hard time deciding tried one last pair - shimano M200 - the second i put them on my decision was easy - most comfortable, lightest, best closure system, got on sale for a whopping $213 less (since using them at least a dozen times i've read some long term bike mag tests they break and wear out after 3 months - did not know this before buying, hopefully mine dont) back to the pearl izumi: Pros got good reviews for long term reliability have a cool design concept where the sole is stiff for climbing but is two pieces of carbon fiber than bend to make walking easier great bottoms/traction for when you have to get off bike and hike pretty stiff compared to all the other new shoes i tried great tightening/ratcheting system seem pretty well ventilated very light somewhat comfortable - not uncomfortable Cons ridiculously expensive (and i dont usually like to let price get in the way of what i hope to be long term investments) pretty stiff new compared to most i tried overall/comfort/price of another pair couldnt come close to justifying almost triple the price for these I'll still give these 4 stars as theyre a great shoe and should be at least tried on by anyone looking for clipless xc-ish mtb shoes

These could replace your roadie shoes.
As to the reviews stating these run small, I pulled the insoles (44) - they measure the exact same size as the 44 insole for my Bontrager RXL Carbon MTB and Shimano XC SPD shoes. I have an older pair of Izumi Fuel-M shoes which are also 44 and the fit is the same. I have narrow feet and the toe box still has plenty of room when dialed in tight. Street shoes run different then higher end cycling shoes. I wear a 43 in most dress shoe - you can't compare street to cycling shoes in this regard. The uppers are very comfy after a ride or two - the insole system is comprehensive with lots of adjustment. I much prefer the Izumi insoles to the bake in the oven/ heat mold manner some of my other shoes required, as you can experiment with the various inserts provided. I was leery the shoe would be too flexy for road use - they are among the stiffest shoes I own. I really cannot tell if these flex more when walking then other mtb shoes they certainly don't appear to, but the soles are very grippy - quite nice to walk on actually compared to other soles of this type. I use these almost exclusively for road and cross riding - they are that good.

X-Project 1.0
After reading all of the reviews, I was very afraid that size 42 would have been too small for me. I currently own Nike, Lake, and Forte shoes, all of them size 42. In my mind it seemed impossible that Pearl Izumi, a Japanese manufacturer, would mess up their high-end product. First, I compared the insoles of the Pearl Izumi versus my Forte shoes, and they were identical. Second, I compared the bottoms, and again they were identical. Third, I put on some thin MTB socks, and tried the Pear Izumis, and they fit. Fourth, there was no “extra inch” in front of my toe, like a hiking shoe salesman would recommend to allow for. The shoe works great with real MTB socks, but not with fluffy hiking ones. The Pearl Izumi bicycling shoe has a precise fit, not a sloppy one. The shoe is adequate for walking that 1% of the MTB trail, but on the other 99% it will deliver total human-bicycle integration. This is an excellent shoe.

this are my racing shoes but it only lasted like 10 uses
I bought this shoes almost a year ago, this are my racing shoes but it only lasted like 10 uses. The sole ripped off, so I wrote directly to Pearl Izumi for warranty information and never received an answer from them.

great shoe EXCEPT
great shoe EXCEPT, must have been due to the heat while in the back of my truck, toe box seam at top melted (?) and now there are rough plastic section in both shoes.

Great shoes, hope the BOA closure system will last.
I normally would wear a size 42.5, but in these size 44 fits perfectly. The dual BOA closure system works well, allows me to quickly adjust the tension to a good level. The tongue stays in place nicely. I have a high instep, and for instance many other brands are too tight and do not fit me at all. I usually do not need to readjust anything during a ride. Have so far done a little over 60 miles and no complaints. Love the insoles that comes with these shoes, came with interchangeable inserts to tune the soles to your foot. Overall, these shoes are comfy, I'm hoping the closure system will last for several years... Recommended!

Not durable
Very comfortable. Good stiffness. Soles came apart after 5 months of use. I would expect more for the price.

Excellent cross shoes
Fantastic shoe, fits small but stretched them out to feel like they were made for my feet. Stiff on bike, feels like running shoes off. The boa system is intuitive and seems like it will last longer than the old Velcro systems. Have used them on my diadora shoes for 3 years now and no issues.

What else great system to ajust tightness for the shoe and possibility ...
This Product fit me pefectly, but I could use 42.5. I am near to touch the end shoe with my big toe. What else great system to ajust tightness for the shoe and possibility to keep setting when you remove. Also you walk pretty well with this shoes when you go off your bicycle.
