Too clunky
I bought this Potato Ricer. It's very heavy and wasn't that easy to handle. I hardly use it. It's in my drawer, which I forget to use it.

Once you have one you will never be without one
The ONLY way to mash potatoes! Using a masher will often result in a gluey mess because it over works the potatoes. PRO TIP...Boil your potatoes in large pieces (so they are not water logged) with some garlic cloves until fork tender. Drain and run them through this, add butter ,salt and pepper to taste. Fluff it all up with minimal work and you end up with silky smooth mash. Because this thing is sturdy it a WAY less work than a traditional masher and you do not end up over working your spuds.

It’s a little too big for me!
It’s a little too big for me! I have a small ricer that is very easy to use. The big one that we’re looking at in the picture above, is bigger and therefore harder to operate.

Finally a solid ricer!
I've tried many of the ricers available- all the SurLaT offers and this one from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004OCJQ/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I returned them all. Back in the 90's I bought a ricer from Williams Sonoma that is still working great, but with more family locations for Thanksgiving and other holidays, we went on the hunt for an additional ricer. This Norpro is the only one that is strong enough to rice without having to get your potatoes water-logged, and unlike so many ricers with plastic parts, it won't distort from heat. Not sure why manufacturers can't remember that ricing potatoes involve HOT potatoes (or other foods), but a few other ricers we tried distorted from heat/pressure of ricing. This one does not. I can't comment on the reviews about the silicone coming loose, but for me that would be a non-event compared to being able to rice without having to worry about the ricer breaking down after 10 minutes of use. Great job Norpro!

EXCELLENT quality!!
These days when just about everything we buy turns out to be some cheap, one-time use piece of garbage, I was astonished at how well made this potato masher is. The price is a little hefty, but this is one kitchen gadget you'll be able to hand down for generations! Very pleased with this purchase.

Yeah, it's ok.
Ok first of all this is not a rag on the product. It is large, well made, sturdy. I really like the fact that it is cast metal rather than stamped. A big plus. My 3 star rating is for the quality of the potato output. After reading so many reviews of silky smooth potato obtained by using a potato ricer I am quite disappointed in the results. I have used it 2-3 times now for making gnocchi and each time the potato mix is grainy. I am on a quest to make great gnocchi. While waiting for the potato ricer to arrive, I used a spoon to mash potato through a wire strainer and the results were nothing short of spectacular. Melt in the mouth texture! However, major hassle and time to mash the potato this way! Now using the potato ricer cut down my prep time by about 90% a huge time saver. However, resulting mash simply was less quality. The size of the holes in the ricer are simply much larger and a single pressing through these holes, while quick, also allows for very small solid chunks to pass through. I will keep using the ricer, because it is so convenient, but will continuw to research how to get the pure mashed texture. Maybe I will pass it through the ricer for a second time? For the convenience, it is great! For quality of output.... it's ok.

Quality!
This ricer is big and of sturdy, heavy-duty quality. I love that the potato comes out from all sides - that's why I purchased it. Large capacity with very strong arms. Worth the money. Just a little bigger than your average hand-ricer for storage purposes.
