Sturdy umbrella
Good umbrella, holds up to the wind. Keeps the rain off you. What else could you want? Just wish the button also closed it.

Very nice umbrella
Easy to open and fold.

Randomly opens, easily inverted by wind, dangerous
As soon as I received this umbrella, I walked over to put it in my car. Unbeknownst to me, I hadn't bought an umbrella, but instead a dangerous weapon. For as I was walking, it suddenly opened, thrusting the handle into my stomach in an act of unintentional seppuku. Thinking I must have pressed the button accidentally, I closed it again and put it down inside my car. I picked it up again to move it, being careful to keep my hands away from the button, and it exploded open again. Despite this half-comical, half-dangerous flaw, I continued to use the weapon over the next couple of days to shield myself from the constant rain. But it would still often attack whomever was nearby, sometimes when touched, sometimes when alone -- at my office or at home. Finally, after only a week of owning this monster, it finally came apart during one of its spontaneous fits of rage. I was hoping I could take this opportunity to address the engineering flaw, but the force of the explosion was so intense that it bent more parts than I wanted to bother realigning. Don't buy this junk product.

Basic black umbrella - works great - Totes makes a good umbrella!
I own two of these Totes umbrellas. Living in Texas, it is rare that we need umbrellas, but sometimes almost seemingly out of nowhere we'll get some rain. This umbrella folds down to a very small size (for you ladies, it would require a fairly large purse to hold - is about 10 inches long). I keep one in my office, and one in the door pocket of my car. Totes umbrellas seem to hold up much better and are better constructed than generic brands; even in heavy wind and rain my Totes have not failed me as long as I am smart about the direction I hold the umbrella (as long as you don't go "Mary Poppins" and try to jump off a building with it, it should hold up well). Bottom line, this is a basic, black umbrella that is well made very handy to have - highly recommended!

For Those Who Take Their Rain Gear Seriously
Where I live, umbrellas are a way of life. Everybody walks and if you don’t have an umbrella, you are going to get ridiculously wet when it rains. In New York City, there are two types of umbrella users: those who buy four dollar umbrellas from street vendors and those who buy “good” umbrellas and spend “good” money for them. This Totes umbrella is the latter. The lifespan of a street vendor umbrella is just slightly longer than that of your average mayfly. A street vendor umbrella will last approximately two rain storms, or if there is any wind involved, half a rain storm, if you are lucky. A street vendor umbrella is a spontaneous, “as needed” purchase. It starts to rain, boom you buy the umbrella. The rains stops, boom you forget it when you get off the bus or leave your dentist’s office. Besides the inexpensive price, these umbrellas are lightweight, small, and easy to tuck into a handbag or briefcase. In contrast, this Totes umbrella is serious business. It is securely made, with strong spokes and a water repellant finish. It is surprisingly heavy for a collapsible. This is NOT an umbrella you want to forget in the back of a taxi cab. You want to own it for years or until the next nor’easter blows it inside out and it goes flying down the street. This umbrella has a button on the handle which “auto” opens but unfortunately does not close the mechanism. There is an elastic loop attached to the handle which allows the umbrella to perhaps be hung from a hook. Please do not use the strap to suspend the umbrella from your wrist. That would be waaaay too dorky. The umbrella also comes with a fabric cover which must be discarded the minute you receive the umbrella. I don’t know why, it’s just the law. This umbrella has a lifetime warranty. If damaged, you return it to Totes in Cincinnati and pay five dollars for handling.

Useful umbrella
This is a wonderful flip-out umbrella that folds to a very small size and can be carried in your brief case or handbag. Normally, I don't carry an umbrella at all, but when Amazon Vine offered a free Totes umbrella in exchange for an honest review, I decided to go for it. I am glad I did. The umbrella appears sturdy, unlikely to blow inside out as do far too many folding umbrellas, and its hood is water-resistant, so that the rain water does not wash through and drench the tent top. For those who need and want an umbrella of the folding variety, highly recommended.

Scratched handle
Nice umbrella but there was a giant scratch on the wood handle.

If I could return it, I would for sure.....
After one month of ownership, the automatic open mechanism broke and now without any warning, it ejects the handle part one meter away by just slightly touching the handle..... Pretty dangerous product. I can't return it so it's going to the garbage can........
