Amazing tool for great price
I've been debating on buying this for about a year and it finally dropped in price quite a bit so I went ahead and bought it. I'm so glad I did and I wish I would have bought it earlier! For such a small sander it has a LOT of power. Super simple to set up and it was ready to start sanding in about 5 minutes. The support tables for holding your wood piece are adjustable and start firm when you lock them in place. I put quite a bit of pressure on the belt with some scrap wood to test it out and it didn't strain at all and didn't slow down at all. I could have saved myself a lot of hand sanding over the past year if I would have gone ahead and bought it when I first saw it.

Great investment
I've been wanting a belt/disc sander for a while and this seemed to be the best option as a starter unit. I have the Wen 8" drill press and have not been disappointed in it so it wasn't a hard decision to get the Wen sander, especially given the price. My initial use was for shaping blocks of walnut, cherry and padauk for making bottle openers. I didn't cut the wood down at all, I just drew the lines I needed to follow and took my time. I used the disc sander and I never had a problem of it bogging down. I used the disc that was already stuck on the disc out of the box (120 grit, I believe) and it worked just fine. No need to press too hard and it made nice progress through the wood without a lot of effort on my part. The 1" belt sander is a great little touch-up tool and I can't wait to try it out on rounding over some tenons. I'm not a chiseling man so it's mortises on the router table and rounding over table saw-made tenons with the sander. The only downside is that the 5" disc sander is small. If you really need a disc sander, go with an 8". I don't regret my purchase, but as with the 8" drill press, something bigger is always better.,

Nice
Small but the right size for my needs. Powerful little table sander.

Happy I bought it!
Perfect for what I bought it for (small craft-type stuff). I even used it to sharpen chisels. I hadn't thought about that when I bought it. An added bonus. Easy belt changes, sturdy, no complaints. I bought a Wen scroll saw and just bought a Wen bandsaw. They're very inexpensive tools, but I'm impressed with the quality.

Great for knife making -EXTENSIVE REVIEW-
I purchased this belt sander to make and grind knives as I am starting into blacksmithing. I love it, it is much more powerful than I expected this little grinder to be. I personally keep the dust cover off the side so I can change the belts quickly, I would recommend other knife makers doing this, but you should always be wearing a good protective dust mask, you do not want to inhale the metal shavings! Pros: -Small -Easy to change belts -Very easy to adjust the belts -Strong sturdy work tables. -There is a good metal backing plate that comes up about 2-3 inches behind the belt, and plenty of area without the backing plate. This is good because it will allow you to do a convex edge, and hollow. Pretty much any edge you desire. -It has been 6 months of constant use with no issues what so ever. Keep in mind you need to do proper upkeep on this... when ever you notice lots of shavings (metal or wood) piling up, it would be a good idea to vacuum or blow off the shavings. Cons: -it is not intended for mass stock removal. For this, I would recommend using a angle grinder, I have given more information below for my recommendations. -It seems as though the table for the round sander is not level when placed ad 90. I would recommend using a speed square to make sure it is proper 90 and to properly get the angles you need. I recommend purchasing the following belts, all tested and approved! 120-Grit Aluminum Oxide Sanding Belt -POWERTEC 111310 1 x 30-Inch 120-Grit Aluminum Oxide Sanding Belt, 10-Pack - this is for the major sanding and removal of metal. 240 Grit Aluminum Oxide Sanding Belt-POWERTEC 111350 1-Inch x 30-Inch 240 Grit Aluminum Oxide Sanding Belt, 10-Pack - this is for removing the deep grind lines. 320-Grit Aluminum Oxide Sanding Belt -POWERTEC 111360 1 x 30-Inch 320-Grit Aluminum Oxide Sanding Belt, 10-Pack - Finally to get a very nice polish and sharp edge I recommend this. Leather Honing Strop Belt-1"x30" Leather Honing Strop Belt - Buffing Compound Included - Pro Sharpening Supplies Angle Grinder: I recommend Bosch 1375A 4-1/2-Inch Angle Grinder found here-Bosch 1375A 4-1/2-Inch Angle Grinder It is great for mass stock removal especially when you couple it with the following blades. DEWALT Thick Metal Cutting Abrasive Wheel-DEWALT DW8062 4-1/2-Inch Diameter by .045-Inch Thick Metal Cutting Abrasive Wheel with 7/8-Inch Arbor - to cut the general knife shape out. DEWALT Concrete/Masonry Grinding Wheel -DEWALT DW4524 4-1/2-Inch by 1/4-Inch by 7/8-Inch Concrete/Masonry Grinding Wheel - awesome for grinding in bevels and getting a closer general shape. Atoplee Sanding Flap Disc -Atoplee 10pcs Quick Change Grit 80# 4 Inch Angle Grinder Polishing Sanding Flap Disc Wheel Deburring - really amazing for pretty much every grinding aspect.... I use them all the time. I hope my review has helped you out! If please click helpful so I will be encouraged to do more of these reviews!

Great product, needs some reworking.
Received the belt sander today, assembly went flawlessly in under 10 minutes and I didn’t even use the instructions. Belt was a little off which is not uncommon, made a quick adjustment and it tracked perfectly. Very simple construction and very easy to use. This belt sander is quieter than any palm sander I have ever owned so I was very happy and impressed by that, easily able to use indoors (which I am), makes less noise than a hand mixer in the kitchen, lol. Had zero issues with creeping, didn’t directly mount it I just placed it on the table and it kept itself in place, which is nice when’s you’re running the machine indoors and don’t want to bolt it down. Great value for the money as well. I would definitely recommend it for general hobby work and am enjoying it so far but it does have some kinks to it so I wouldn’t recommend it for your first belt sander if you aren’t used to using them. I’ll try to give the best info I can without turning it into to shop class lesson for people who haven’t used these as often as I have. The only reasons I couldn’t give it 5 stars for versatility and felt I had to dock it a star overall was that it lacks a variable speed and is a very high speed for woodwork and even metalwork in many instances, and the disc grinder on the side has a pointless setup. It’s extremely easy to burn the wood if you place a little bit of pressure (slight touch, happens with inexperience) on it if you aren’t used to using a belt sander with the speed it is set at. Too high of a speed can also affect the edge of a blade if you are sharpening a knife as the friction from a belt sander created at high speed will cause big heat fluctuations in the metal which can damage and even permanently wreck the edge of the knife (won’t retain an edge, edge chips when sharpening or using, feels dull even after sharpening... etc.). At slower speeds belt sanders have some forgiveness but this is too fast of a speed for a single speed belt sander in my opinion so if you aren’t used to using a belt sander I would look for one with a lower speed or at least a variable one. This belt sander would be PERFECT if they made a few changes. Add variable speed or reduce the speed by at least 1/3 if left as a single speed. Finger knobs (like the one for the the small transparent guard on top) for the 3 bolts that close up the side guard on the belt sander for easier belt replacement (these only have to be on hand tight so no need for a screwdriver). Hook and loop system for the disc sander on the side, there is no need to have the disc glued on with industrial strength adhesive, it isn’t even a cost saving so I’m not sure why they would make it this way. You can’t even replace the pad without owning a heat gun, can’t change the grit. I could casually wear that out in 30 minutes if I had a few small projects on the go, it almost makes the disc sander pointless because you can’t just swap out the sanding surface on the fly. It’s different on models where it is an actual grinder disc that has 1/2” thick worth of sanding material but this is just an orbital sander pad (paper) glued to the unit. Just throw on a pad of hook and loop like an orbital sander so you can just slap on a new sanding pad when it wears out. Hope this review helps some people!

Well priced desktop sander for the handyman
I note the other reviews are for the larger sander and not the 1" x 30". I ordered and promptly received the 1" x 30" machine. This is a nice little desk top size sander and works for me as I usually work on small things, although it is ok for touching up woodworking items. Just remember, it will not sand large woodworking projects for which you need the larger Wen sander with the 6" disk and wider belt. I will use the belt for sharpening chisels etc. and maybe even making some knives although it would not stand up to production knifemaking. The disk is great for accurately fitting parts although like all tools it needs to be set up properly, using a square to get true 90 degree angles etc. In summary, a decent machine for the price which is what attracted me. Make allowance for $40 or so for additional belts. I ordered good quality 220 grit disks and 180, 240 and 320 belts useful for sharpening and finishing.

Excellent consumer-grade sander
WEN is one of the best in consumer-grade tools. Internal parts and finish are superior to a lot of the other budget brands. Sander comes mostly assembled with sanding belt and disc installed. Motor is quiet and has enough power for the application. Great for woodworking, tool sharpening, injuring finger tips.

Works very well
The first one that I order arrived damaged and I sent it back. Amazon.ca sent me a replacement one, and I was very happy with it. As with all the tools that I have I do a tune up on them first before I put them to work, eg: I made sure that all the wheels / guide for the 1 inch belt were round and smooth (which they were not done right from the factory) I made sure that the back bracket for the sanding belt was 90 deg's to the table top and that the angle indacator is correct on 0 and 45 deg mark. The machine is very quiet and smooth running now (no vibrations) and it works like a charm, for me it was worth the money and time.
