GMRS or not?
I received the radios and quickly discovered that they only state "FRS" on the front panel of the display instead of "GMRS/FRS" as pictured in this Amazon listing. There was nothing in the packaging that mentioned GMRS so I called Cobra MicroTalk customer service. They were super helpful and let me know that these radios, in fact, do both GMRS and FRS. They explained that channels 1-7 and 15-22 were the GMRS high-power channels (you can also manually set these channels to FRS low-power mode), and channels 8-14 are the FRS low-power only channels. Hope this is helpful!

They work great
Have one set of this same model and decided I needed a second set for friends/family to use when we are camping together or emergencies . Haven't used them at a great distance yet but they do work great up to the 2 mile distance I have used them so far .

Fantastic compared to others I have tried!
I tried the similar unit by midland. Midland would not hold a charge more than 8 hours plus the range was really bad based on tests around my neighborhood. What I learned while reading reviews of this cobra was to try other batteries so I ordered rechargeable Duracell 2450 mAh batteries. What a huge difference in longevity that made! Also, I bought a plug in battery charger which speeds up charging. It does come with a charging base that holds two units. I also read that don't use any charging units or cords that charges two units at a time. You can use any single mini usb charging cord. Yesterday I took a walk about a half a mile in my neighborhood (lots of homes and tons of trees) and set the unit to low power and it worked like a champ. I was grinning ear to ear, finally a walkie talkie that performs very well. It's study and lots of features. One warning, it didn't come with an instruction book. I had to email the company and they sent me a 13 page pdf file which I printed out (large enough to read too). I really dislike buying junk equipment but at this price compared to other brands, this thing is a Rolls Royce in quality and performance. I would but it again for sure!

Better quality and greater range than my Cobra CX335 Walkie Talkies
My wife and I live off grid on 24 acres of wooded land. When I'm working outside or she's out for a walk around the property, we like to have communications. Earlier, I purchased a pair of Cobra CX335 Walkie Talkies but one unit eventually failed after three years of hard use so after looking at a number of different models, I decided to order these Cobra ACXT545 Walkie Talkies, which claim a longer range. After changing rechargeable batteries often in the former pair, I wanted the new walkie talkies to be able to sit in a charging station and be ready to go at all times without having to change batteries. Hence, the ACXT545 talkies met my requirement. I have range tested my older CX335 talkies and got around a mile range out of them, which was sufficient for our property. Today, I tested the range of our new ACXT545 talkies and was pleased to discover that I was able to communicate clearly with my wife from our mail box out by the main highway (two miles away with lots of trees in-between). These talkies definitely have better range. That, and they work with the remaining CX335 talkie that still works. Like our former walkie talkies, these will get used several times a day and take a beating. I expect they will hold up well. If not, I'll update my review.

UPDATE NOT SO Very Good Radios.... WON'T TURN OFF
ANOTHER UPDATE: NOW BOTH RADIOS WILL NOT TURN 'OFF'. HAVE TO REMOVE A BATTERY TO TURN THEM OFF. UPDATE ONE YEAR ON: Range seems to have decreased. One handset now will not turn off with the button so I have to remove the battery to shut it down. NOW DISAPPOINTED. Very good pair of radios Wife and I caravan an RV and a SUV to a campground and we use these vehicle-to-vehicle enroute and spotting the RV in the camp and back in the storage lot - much better than hand signals or screaming! Bought these to replace a set of Midlands that failed after only a year. Love the fact that you can just use AA Batteries if required and ADORE the constant, on-screen battery level display. Like most electronic devices these days, it is over-complicated with features I'll probably never use but I did figure out how to go to a private frequency to avoid interference from other radio users. Each radio has a micro USB plug so it can be charged without the charging stand. The charging stand is also USB and it comes WITHOUT an A/C adapter so it has to be plugged into a USB outlet. The menus were slightly difficult to use but I finally figured out how to turn off the vibration upon receiving a transmission thingie. Lots of features that I would use hunting (earphone jacks etc) but not why I bought the radios. Lost one star over the menus and lack of the A/C adapter only.

Good radios, used daily
I was reordering these after losing one of them while elk hunting. They work very well and usually surprise me how far the get through forest areas. From the top of the mountain, I confirmed a 4 mile capability down to main road with perfect clarity. We use them daily from house to barn and they hold up well. We have broken the belt clips on a couple of them in the past, so you really need to put them in a pocket or keep them where you don't snag them on something. Flashlight on bottom has been very handy during some extended power outages after winter storms this year. So has the weather radio. I really like the fact that you can charge these individually by plugging a mini USB into the top of the radio, as well as 2 at a time on the charger. As I have cables in every vehicle and room of the house for phones, I can charge them anywhere. Very clear if used properly. I can even understand our 6 yr old after coaching her not to try eating it while talking on it. If you have never used a radio like this, read the instructions as you can get yourself in trouble for using the wrong channels. We picked a channel and keep it as the only one our family uses as we are not professional radio operators.

Better usability than our truck mounted 2-ways
Not the first set we've bought for work. Very nice alternative to expensive 2-way radios installed in our trucks.
